Gregg Allman, one of the greatest rock and roll voices in classic rock history has passed away at the age of 69 years old. The family has yet to release an official statement on his passing. Gregg Allman had suffered from many health issues recently. The legendary singer had recently announced that he was cancelling all remaining 2017 shows. Gregg Allman’s last performance was held  at the Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta as part of his Laid Back Festival that Allman had organized. Gregg Allman had also performed in September at the Red Rocks Amphitheater just outside of Denver. It does seem too long ago that the Allman Brothers performed their last New York City Beacon Shows. With the announcement that the band would no longer be performing at the Beacon, the band had also announced that the Allman Brothers Band would no longer tour.

Gregg Allman founded the Allman Brothers Band with his brother Duane Allman in 1969. Along with guitarist Dicky Betts, Berry Oakley , Butch Trucks , and Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, the band would go on to become the most loved southern rock band of all time. At times, they would even sneer at the classification of a southern rock band, as the band fused many genres of music from jazz, blues and county. The band would endure many tragedies with the deaths of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley early on in their careers. Recently, the band lost original drummer Butch Trucks also at the age of 69.

After the band split up in the early 1980s, Gregg Allman would continue to release a string of solo albums. In 1987, Greg Allman had a huge hit with the single I’m No Angel. In 1990, the Allman Brothers were reformed with the addition of guitarist Warren Haynes. Over the years, the band would have a fall out with Dicky Betts who would eventually be replaced by Derek Trucks. The Allman Brothers Band continued to tour throughout the 1990’s and 2000’s often becoming a fixture on the nations summer concert stages.

It’s tough to lose Gregg Allman at the young age of 69.  Gregg Allman sang in a voice that no one will ever come close to duplicating.  Every trait of human emotion was conveyed in every word and phrase that Gregg Allman sang. He will never be forgotten
