Our Top 10 Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons Songs list takes a look at a band that had one of the most distinctive sounds in classic rock history. The band’s name has been spelled differently over the years. Many critics and fans spell out the number calling the band  Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. However, their name always appeared on their singles and albums in the 1960s as Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons. The band signed with Vee Jay Records in 1962. Vee Jay Records was The Beatles first record company that lost the band because they could not handle the group’s success and ultimately failed to make payments to the group. Eventually, Vee Jay they would also lose Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons to Phillips Records.

Not many bands start out their careers with three straight number one singles. Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons instantly became one of the most popular groups in the world in the early 1960s. The band’s first album featured Frankie Valli on lead vocals, Bob Gaudio on keyboards and vocals, Nick Massi on bass and vocals and Tommy DeVito on guitar and vocals. Keyboardist Bob Guido, along with the band’s producer Bob Crewe shared the responsibility of composing many of the band’s biggest hits.

Their string of hits would continue all throughout the decade of the 1960s. As times changed towards the end of the decade and progressive rock along with bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Doors and so many other rock bands began to rule the airwaves, Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons saw their popularity diminish. However, in 1975, the success of Van Mccoy’s “The Hustle,” and the advent of disco opened the door to the band once again to score big on the charts. The album Who Loves You featured a new band with Gerry Polci on lead vocals on the hit “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night). The song featured Frankie Valli just on the song’s bridge.

It was fascinating that the band had the biggest hit of their career with the song and Frankie Valli only sang a small section of the tune. Nonetheless, Frankie Valli was enjoying great success in the 1970s as a solo artist with hits like “My Eyes Adored You,” “Swearing To God,” and of course the mega million selling single “Grease,” from the motion picture soundtrack Grease.

Our top 10 Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons songs list, or if you prefer Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons songs list takes a look at the group’s biggest hits in the 1960s and 1970s with just a couple of lesser-known songs thrown in for fun. The mid 1970’s disco fever train took hold of the United States and the 4 Seasons jumped right on for a very successful ride. Two of the band’s biggest hits of their career were released on their 1975 album entitled Who Loves You. The title track “Who Loves You,” echoed the disco sounds of 1975 and featured a revamped 4 Seasons lineup. The band actually spelled their name without the number 4 and without Frankie Valli’s name appearing before the band. Instead of being labeled Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons, the band was named The Four Seasons. The song “Who Loves You,” hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975.

# 7 -Working My Way Back to You

Continuing with our Top 10 Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons Songs list, we turn to their golden era in the 1960s. The classic track “Working My Way Back to You,” was released in 1966. # 5 – Dawn

In 1964, Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons battled The Beatles for the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The Beatles songs “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “She Loves You” prevented the 4 seasons from reaching number one with the great song “Dawn.” Nonetheless the battles between The Beatles, The 4 Seasons, The Dave Clark Five, The Rolling Stones, Tommy James, The Ventures and many more left fans with some of the greatest songs ever released in classic rock history.

# 4 – Walk Like A Man

With a group as legendary as Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons it becomes almost impossible to put all these great Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons songs in any sort of order. In the end, It’s really just a tribute to these great songs and honestly, it’s a lot of fun to do. “Walk Like A Man,” was one of the band’s most popular songs. “Walk Like A Man,” was the third straight number one single the band released at the start of their career. It hit number one in the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. The song was written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio.

# 3 – Rag Doll

Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons started out their career with three straight number one singles from 1962 to 1963. The next six singles failed to hit number one, but for the most part were top 20 hits. However, in 1964 Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons earned their fourth number one single with the great song “Rag Doll.”

# 2 – December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)

No one saw this one coming in 1976. It had been a long time since the band had a number one single.”December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” was released on the 1975 album Who Loves You. The album’s title track was the first single released from the album and as stated previously in this top 10 Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons songs article, “Who Loves You,” hit number three on the charts. Nonetheless, in 1976 the 4 Season scored their biggest hit of their career. “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It went to number one also in the United Kingdom. It was the band’s biggest selling single they ever released.

# 1 – Sherry

We end our Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons songs list with the band’s first number one single. In 1962, Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons hit number one with their smash hit “Sherry.” The song was written by Bob Gaudio. The song would eventually be released on the album Golden Hits of the 4 Season. That album was released in 1963. “Sherry,” is not a song that would be covered by other artists. The sound of the song was so distinguished by the voice of Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons that any attempts to cover it would probably just fail. There are certain songs you just don’t remake; Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven,” Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and Springsteen’s “Born To Run.” are just untouchable pieces of music, just like the 4 Seasons’ “Sherry.”
