Since the Super Bowl is coming up in a few hours, it made me think about how exciting it is to see a band perform live in concert. And while I’ve been to my fair share of concerts through out the years, it’s very easy to remember the concerts where I truly felt connected to the band. Ones where I saw that the bands were generating enough energy to light up a city. And you know a stadium is rocking when every single person in the audience knows every single word to every single song that’s being performed.

The number of bands and artists that throw these kinds of concerts is few but off the top my head I would have to say that Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, and U2 would be at the top of my list as far those who are still performing. I can only imagine what it must have been like to attend a Led Zeppelin concert or going further back, The Beatles.

In any event, I’ve chosen to focus on U2 today. I’ll never forget seeing these guys for the first time live at the Superdome in New Orleans in 1997. 70,000 screaming fans and just going absolutely wild. While in recent years I think their concerts aren’t nearly as good (and that’s really just because they perform more new stuff which I think is horrible) that takes nothing away from the memorable experiences this band has given me and millions of other fans.

Here are seven live performances by U2 I wish I could have been at.

“Bad” At Live Aid – 1985

Still Haven’t Found What I’ve Looking For – Milan
