The number of bands and artists that throw these kinds of concerts is few but off the top my head I would have to say that Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, and U2 would be at the top of my list as far those who are still performing. I can only imagine what it must have been like to attend a Led Zeppelin concert or going further back, The Beatles.
In any event, I’ve chosen to focus on U2 today. I’ll never forget seeing these guys for the first time live at the Superdome in New Orleans in 1997. 70,000 screaming fans and just going absolutely wild. While in recent years I think their concerts aren’t nearly as good (and that’s really just because they perform more new stuff which I think is horrible) that takes nothing away from the memorable experiences this band has given me and millions of other fans.
Here are seven live performances by U2 I wish I could have been at.
Where the Streets Have No Name at Slane Castle
“Bad” At Live Aid – 1985
Still Haven’t Found What I’ve Looking For – Milan
With or Without You in Boston
New Year’s Day – Chicago
Vertigo at Live 8
Sunday Bloody Sunday – Dublin
