With all the excitement about the Guns N’ Roses reunion tour, we thought it was time to list what we believe are some of the best Gun N’ Roses songs, or at least our favorites, The popularity of the band is simply amazing considering their small catalog. However, when they first came onto the scene in the late 1980s, they generated excitement not seen since the days of Led Zeppelin. While so many of the so-called hair bands of the 1980s relied on an image as much as their music, Guns N’ Roses came blasting out of the gate with simply great rock and roll songs and musicianship that stood above all the rest.

Their breakout album Appetite for Destruction was a nonstop force of rock and roll energy that recalled the Rolling Stones at their peak. Their follow-up to Appetite for Destruction resulted in not one, but two iconic albums in Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion 2. The new albums released in 1992 presented a maturity in their songwriting without losing the hard edge that their fans had fallen in love with.

It had been unprecedented that a band of Guns N’ Roses stature had ever released two major albums at the same time. When both albums were released on September 17th 1991, fans instantly began the argument over which was their favorite record. Although Appetite for Destruction remains Guns N’ Roses biggest selling album to date, Use Your Illusion I  and II remain the artistic apex of the band’s career.

Our Top 10 Guns N’ Roses Songs list is simply a list of our favorite Guns N’ Roses songs. We are not saying that anyone’s song is better than the other, but rather we have picked the ones we here at Classic Rock History have played the most. We will just let the music speak for itself this time and reserve commentary on these great songs. Let us know your favorite Guns N’ Roses Songs.

# 10 – Patience

“Patience,” is the only song on this top 10 list not to hail from the big there albums of Appetite for Destruction, Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II. The song “Patience,” was released on G N’ R Lies in April of 1989 The song was entirely written by Izzy Stradlin. The Guns N’ Roses song “Patience,” hit No. 4 on the Billboard Top 100 Music Charts. Many fans have chosen “Patience,” as one of their favorite Guns N’ Roses Songs.

# 9 –  Civil War

The Guns N’ Roses song “Civil War,” was the opening track on the Use Your Illusion II album which was released in 1991. The song “Civil War,” was written by Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. The song was released as a single. The song “Civil War,” was also released as part of an EP entitled Civil War. When both Illusion albums came out, many Guns N’ Roses fans instantly argued that “Civil War,” was the song that drew them closer to the Use Your Illusion II album as their favorite of the two releases.

# 8 –  Get in the Ring

“Get in the Ring,” is the second song in a row from the Use Your Illusion II album. The song “Get in the Ring,” was the fifth track on the album. The song was also written by the trio of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan. Looking back over time, one could argue this was a highly appropriate title that summed up a great deal of the tension that soon would take place in the Guns N’ Roses world. However, it has always been one of our favorite Guns N’ roses songs. Simply killer!

# 7 – Out Ta Get Me

The Guns N’ Roses song “Out Ta Get Me,” is rarely seen on Top 10 Guns N’ Roses songs lists. However, we love this song and think it’s one of their most underrated songs. The song “Out Ta Get Me,” was released on the Appetite for Destruction album in 1987. It appeared as the fourth track on the album.

# 6 – November Rain

For many Gun N’ Roses fans, the song “November Rain,” usually ends up in the top three songs list. We love the song, but there are some Guns N’ Roses songs that we just love just a little bit more. The song “November Rain,” was released on the Use Your Illusions I album in 1991. The song “November Rain,” was released as a single and hit No.3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was even more impressive that the song hit No. 3 because of the length of the song. The song was written by Axl Rose and appeared as the tenth track on the album.

# 5 – Nightrain

The Guns N’ Roses song, “Nightrain,” was released on the Appetite for Destruction LP in 1987. “Nightrain,” was the third single released off the Appetite for Destruction album. It featured lead guitar work by both Slash and Izzy Stradlin. In Slash’s autobiography, the lead guitarist described “Nightrain,” as being his favorite song to perform live.

# 4 – Paradise City

“Paradise City,” was released on the Appetite for Destruction album in 1987. The song was the fourth single released from the album after the initial release of “It’s so Easy,” as the first single. The song is one of two anthems that are often played in sports areas. The other anthem is of course “Welcome to the Jungle.” Every band must have the crowd pleasing sing along song. For Gun N’ Roses, “Paradise City,” has always served that purpose, at least for the very short amount of time they actually did concerts. “Paradise City,” is easily one of the most popular Guns N’ Roses Songs ever released.

# 3 – Dust N’ Bones

The song “Dust N’ Bones,” is one of those Guns N’ Roses Songs that few fans vote for as one of their favorites. Nonetheless, there is a deep and dark substance to the song that helps it stand as one of their best written and performed pieces. It appeared as the second track on the Use Your Illusions I album. The song was written by Izzy Stradlin, Slash, and Duff McKagan.

# 2 – Welcome To The Jungle

When it comes to choosing the best or at least most popular, or maybe just the best-loved Guns N’ Roses song, it always comes down to these two. There really is no argument between them as there are pretty interchangeable at the No.1 and No.2 positions. The great Guns N’ Roses song “Welcome to the Jungle,” appeared as the opening track on the Appetite for Destruction album. It was the second single released from the album.

# 1 – Sweet Child O’ Mine

It’s hard to believe that “Sweet Child O’ Mine” was the third single released from the Appetite for Destruction album. Not only is the song usually chosen as one of the greatest Guns N’ Roses songs ever released, but it is also often chosen, and rightfully so, as one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever recorded.

The song hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1987. “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” was the only No.1 song of the band’s career. Out of all the great Guns N’ Roses Songs, “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” is our choice for Number one on the Top 10 Guns N’ Roses Songs list.
