Force Fed

Released January 1989

Force Fed marks a critical moment in the evolution of Prong’s aggressive sound. As their debut studio album, it captures the band’s raw energy and relentless drive. The sound is distinctly hardcore punk, but with a thrash metal edge that hints at the direction Prong would later take. The band’s lineup on this album was Tommy Victor on vocals and guitar, Mike Kirkland on bass, and Ted Parsons on drums. Mark Dodson took the reins as producer, with Prong recording the album at the Music Grinder Studios in Los Angeles, California, over several sessions in the latter half of 1988.

Beg to Differ

Released March 12, 1990

With Beg to Differ, Prong took a definitive step towards the metal genre, blending their hardcore roots with more technical and thrash elements. The album received critical acclaim for its innovative approach and became a favorite among the underground metal community. Tommy Victor, Mike Kirkland, and Ted Parsons continued their roles in the band for this album. Production was managed by Mark Dodson once again. Beg to Differ was recorded at Atlantic Studios in New York City during the final months of 1989.

Prove You Wrong

Released September 24, 1991

Prove You Wrong saw Prong further refining their thrash metal sound, adding industrial elements that would become more prominent in their later work. Tommy Victor led the lineup changes with Troy Gregory on bass and Ted Parsons on drums. Prong worked with producer Terry Date, known for his work with Pantera and Soundgarden. The album was recorded at Eldorado Recording Studios in Burbank, California, in early 1991.

Cleansing

Released January 25, 1994

Cleansing is often regarded as Prong’s breakthrough album, where they fully integrated industrial elements into their sound. With this release, they received greater mainstream attention, and the album is frequently cited as a pivotal record in the industrial metal genre.

The band on this record consisted of Tommy Victor, Paul Raven on bass, and Ted Parsons on drums. John Bechdel also contributed on keyboards. Cleansing was produced by Terry Date and Prong, showcasing a polished sound that didn’t forsake the band’s aggressive edge. Rude Awakening

Released March 26, 1996

Rude Awakening is recognized as Prong’s final studio album before their initial breakup and marked a significant departure towards a more experimental sound. It combines elements of groove metal, thrash, and industrial and showcases the band’s willingness to experiment with their established sound. Tommy Victor on vocals and guitars, Paul Raven on bass, and Ted Parsons on drums were the driving force behind the music. John Bechdel also contributed on keyboards. Rude Awakening was produced by Prong with the assistance of Terry Date and was recorded at various studios, primarily in New York City, during the mid-1990s.

Scorpio Rising

After a hiatus, Scorpio Rising marked the return of Prong with an album that infused their metal sound with post-punk and noise-rock influences. Tommy Victor continued to lead with Monte Pittman on bass and backing vocals, and Dan Laudo on drums. Produced by Tommy Victor and Steve Bruno, Scorpio Rising was recorded at various studios throughout 2002 and early 2003.

Power of the Damager

Released October 2, 2007

With Power of the Damager, Prong returned to a heavier, more aggressive sound reminiscent of their mid-90s material. This album re-established the band’s presence in the metal community and was received with positive reviews from fans and critics alike for its uncompromising intensity and focus.

Tommy Victor led with Monte Pittman on bass and Aaron Rossi on drums. Power of the Damager was self-produced by Prong and recorded at various locations throughout 2006 and early 2007.

This project was a divergence from their original work, offering fans a curated collection of covers with Prong’s unique metallic imprint. The band lineup for this album included Tommy Victor, Jason Christopher, and Art Cruz. The album was recorded throughout 2014, with Tommy Victor overseeing the production. I love this album.
