The Rossington Collins Band was formed in 1979 in Jacksonville, Florida, by former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins. The band was born out of the ashes of Lynyrd Skynyrd following the 1977 plane crash that claimed the lives of Ronnie Van Zandt, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick,  and pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot John Gray.  They released two studio albums, Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere (1980) and This Is the Way (1981), and one live album, Live in Atlanta (1982).

Despite their short-lived career, the band made significant inroads on the Billboard charts, with their debut album reaching number thirteen and their second album peaking at number twenty-three. They did not win any major music awards but are remembered for their contribution to the Southern rock genre and for helping to keep the spirit of Lynyrd Skynyrd alive during a difficult period.

Members of the band included Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Dale Krantz Rossington (lead vocals), Billy Powell (keyboards), Leon Wilkeson (bass), Derek Hess (drums), and later Barry Harwood (guitar, backing vocals). The band ceased operations in 1982, following which members pursued other projects, notably the formation of the Allen Collins Band by Allen Collins.
