Fuel is an American rock band formed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, whose roots reach back to the early 1990s. Known for a hard rock and post-grunge sound, the band broke through nationally with Sunburn in 1998 and the hit single “Shimmer.” Their second album, Something Like Human, followed in 2000 and produced some of Fuel’s best-known songs, including “Hemorrhage (In My Hands),” “Bad Day,” and “Innocent.” The band continued with Natural Selection in 2003, Angels & Devils in 2007, Puppet Strings in 2014, and Ã…nomÃ¥ly in 2021.
Fuel has gone through numerous lineup changes, but founding guitarist and songwriter Carl Bell returned in 2020 alongside longtime drummer Kevin Miller. The current lineup also includes vocalist and guitarist Aaron Scott, guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Klotz, and bassist and backing vocalist Tommy Nat. In 2026, Fuel released the single “Want It” and announced its seventh studio album, Pendulum, for release on October 30, 2026.
Below is a detailed look at Fuel’s current members, former members, and notable touring musicians.
Carl Bell
Carl Bell is Fuel’s founding guitarist, primary songwriter, and one of the central figures in the band’s history. His guitar work and songwriting helped define Fuel’s sound on Sunburn, Something Like Human, Natural Selection, and Angels & Devils. Bell wrote many of the group’s biggest songs, including “Shimmer,” “Hemorrhage (In My Hands),” “Bad Day,” and “Falls on Me.”
Bell stepped away from Fuel after the Angels & Devils era but returned in 2020. He wrote, arranged, produced, mixed, and performed the instrumental parts on Ånomåly, which was released in 2021. Bell remains part of Fuel’s current lineup and has continued writing and recording with the band during the Pendulum era.
Kevin Miller
Kevin Miller joined Fuel in late 1997 after original drummer Jody Abbott left the band. Although Miller is credited on Sunburn, session drummer Jonathan Mover recorded the drum tracks for that album while Fuel was between drummers. Miller became the band’s touring drummer and then played on Something Like Human and Natural Selection.
Miller left Fuel in 2004 and later pursued other musical projects. He reunited with Carl Bell in 2020 and returned to Fuel as its drummer. Miller remains part of the current lineup and appears on the band’s 2026 material.
Aaron Scott
Aaron Scott became Fuel’s lead vocalist and guitarist in 2022 after the departure of John Corsale. Before joining Fuel, Scott had spent years performing and writing music and later appeared on NBC’s The Voice, where he performed Fuel’s “Hemorrhage.”
Scott became an important part of Fuel’s next creative phase and co-wrote the 2026 single “Want It” with Carl Bell. He is the lead vocalist on Fuel’s upcoming seventh studio album, Pendulum, and remains part of the current lineup.
Mark Klotz
Mark Klotz joined Fuel during the band’s 2021-era rebirth as guitarist and backing vocalist. His addition gave the group a second guitar voice alongside Carl Bell and helped establish the lineup that followed the release of Ånomåly.
Klotz remains a member of Fuel in 2026. He has continued touring and recording with the band and is part of the lineup featured on the Pendulum sessions.
Tommy Nat
Tommy Nat joined Fuel during the group’s 2021-era rebuild as bassist and backing vocalist. His bass work became part of the rhythm section supporting Carl Bell’s return and the band’s renewed touring activity.
Nat remains Fuel’s bassist in 2026 and is part of the current lineup with Carl Bell, Kevin Miller, Aaron Scott, and Mark Klotz.
Brett Scallions
Brett Scallions was Fuel’s original lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist during the band’s breakthrough years. His voice is heard on Sunburn, Something Like Human, and Natural Selection, including major songs such as “Shimmer,” “Hemorrhage (In My Hands),” “Bad Day,” and “Falls on Me.”
Scallions left Fuel after the band’s initial run and later returned in 2010 with a new version of the group. He fronted Fuel on Puppet Strings in 2014 and continued with the band until 2020, when Carl Bell and Kevin Miller began a separate new chapter under the Fuel name.
Jeff Abercrombie
Jeff Abercrombie was Fuel’s bassist during the band’s formative years and commercial peak. He played on Sunburn, Something Like Human, Natural Selection, and Angels & Devils, providing the low-end foundation beneath many of the band’s best-known recordings.
Abercrombie remained with Fuel through the late 2000s and later participated in the early stages of Brett Scallions’ post-2010 version of the group before stepping away from touring.
Jody Abbott
Jody Abbott was Fuel’s original drummer and played an important role in the band’s earliest years. He performed on Fuel’s independent releases, including material issued before the band signed with Sony, but left in November 1997 before the drum tracks for Sunburn were recorded.
Abbott died on July 20, 2022, at age 55 after living with Huntington’s disease. His work remains part of Fuel’s formative history and the period that established the band before its national breakthrough.
Erik Avakian
Erik Avakian played keyboards and sang backing vocals with Fuel during the band’s earliest period. His contributions helped broaden the group’s sound before Fuel developed the more guitar-driven style associated with its major-label albums.
Avakian left the band before the Sunburn era but remains part of Fuel’s original history.
Toryn Green
Toryn Green became Fuel’s lead vocalist after Brett Scallions’ first departure. He sang on the band’s 2007 album Angels & Devils, including songs such as “Wasted Time” and “Gone.”
Green remained with Fuel through the end of that lineup’s run around 2010. Angels & Devils remains the only Fuel studio album to feature him as lead vocalist.
Tommy Stewart
Tommy Stewart joined Fuel as drummer during the mid-2000s and toured with the group during the Angels & Devils period. Although he was announced as part of the lineup, other commitments prevented him from recording the album itself.
The studio drums on Angels & Devils were performed primarily by Josh Freese, with Tommy Lee appearing on “Wasted Time.” Stewart’s contribution to Fuel was therefore primarily as a live drummer rather than as the drummer heard on the album.
Ken Schalk
Ken Schalk joined Fuel as drummer during Brett Scallions’ return to the band and remained from 2010 to 2013. His drumming became part of the lineup that developed material for Puppet Strings.
Schalk recorded the principal drum tracks for Puppet Strings before leaving the band in 2013. Additional drums on the album were also performed by Shannon Boone.
Brad Stewart
Brad Stewart joined Fuel as bassist during Brett Scallions’ post-2010 lineup. He played on Puppet Strings and co-wrote material for the album.
Stewart remained with Fuel until 2015. His tenure covered the band’s return to studio recording after several years without a new full-length album.
Andy Andersson
Andy Andersson joined Fuel as lead guitarist during the early 2010s. He became part of the lineup that recorded Puppet Strings, contributing guitar as well as mandolin and dobro on selected tracks.
Andersson remained with Fuel until 2015 and helped shape the guitar sound of the band’s Brett Scallions-led era.
John Corsale
John Corsale became Fuel’s lead vocalist and guitarist when Carl Bell and Kevin Miller rebuilt the band in 2020. He provided all lead vocals on Ånomåly, released in October 2021.
Corsale remained with Fuel until 2022. After his departure, Aaron Scott became the band’s lead vocalist and began the next phase of Fuel’s recording and touring history.
Ronny Paige
Ronny Paige served as a touring bassist for Fuel during the late 2000s. His time with the band fell within the Angels & Devils touring era.
Paige was a touring contributor rather than a studio-album member, but his work forms part of Fuel’s live lineup history.
Yogi Lonich
Yogi Lonich played lead guitar and backing vocals in Brett Scallions’ early post-2010 version of Fuel. He was part of the touring lineup as the band re-established itself following the earlier hiatus.
Lonich’s tenure was brief, and he was later replaced as Fuel continued reshaping the lineup that eventually recorded Puppet Strings.
Jasin Todd
Jasin Todd, formerly of Shinedown, briefly played lead guitar with Fuel during 2010 and 2011. He joined during a period of rapid personnel changes in Brett Scallions’ version of the band.
Todd left the group before the Puppet Strings recording lineup was finalized.
Bryan Keeling
Bryan “Keelgood” Keeling briefly joined Fuel as a touring drummer in 2013 after Ken Schalk’s departure. His stay was short because other touring commitments took him away from the group.
Keeling was succeeded in the touring lineup by Shannon Boone. His involvement with Fuel was limited to this transitional period.
Shannon Boone
Shannon Boone joined Fuel as a touring drummer in 2013 and remained associated with the group for several years. He also contributed additional drum performances to Puppet Strings.
Boone continued with the Brett Scallions-led version of Fuel through the later 2010s and became one of the longer-serving touring drummers in that phase of the band’s history.
Phil Buckman
Phil Buckman joined Fuel as bassist and backing vocalist in the mid-2010s. He became part of the later Brett Scallions touring lineup after Brad Stewart’s departure.
Buckman remained associated with the band through 2020, when Fuel entered another major period of lineup change.
Jason Womack
Jason Womack joined Fuel as lead guitarist and backing vocalist during the later 2010s. He performed as part of the Brett Scallions-led touring lineup alongside Phil Buckman and Shannon Boone.
Womack’s tenure ended around 2020 as the band transitioned into the Carl Bell and Kevin Miller-led lineup.
Jonathan Mover
Jonathan Mover was not a long-term member of Fuel, but he played an important role in the band’s first major-label album. After Jody Abbott left and before Kevin Miller had fully settled into the group, Mover recorded the drum tracks for Sunburn.
That makes Mover an important session contributor to Fuel’s breakthrough album even though he was not the drummer who toured behind the record.
