BLACKPINK built a global career from a remarkably compact catalog, turning each group release into an event large enough to reshape expectations for K-pop. From the immediate impact of “Whistle” and “BOOMBAYAH” to the stadium-scale confidence of “JUMP” and the five-song DEADLINE comeback in 2026, JISOO, JENNIE, ROSÉ, and LISA have made scarcity part of their mythology without allowing it to limit their reach.

YG Entertainment formed BLACKPINK with four members: JISOO, JENNIE, ROSÉ, and LISA. The group debuted on August 8, 2016, with the single album SQUARE ONE, whose two songs immediately established both sides of its identity. “Whistle” paired sparse production with an unusually restrained hook, while “BOOMBAYAH” introduced the explosive performance style that would become central to the group’s concerts and videos.
SQUARE TWO followed in November 2016 with “Playing with Fire,” “Stay,” and an acoustic version of “Whistle.” The release demonstrated that BLACKPINK could move between electronic pop, hip-hop, acoustic balladry, and melodic dance music without losing the vocal and visual contrasts among its four members.
The 2017 digital single “As If It’s Your Last” expanded the group’s international audience and preceded its Japanese debut. BLACKPINK’s Japanese releases introduced translated versions of the Korean singles and later collected material from SQUARE UP and KILL THIS LOVE for the Japanese market.
BLACKPINK released SQUARE UP in June 2018. “DDU-DU DDU-DU” became one of the defining K-pop songs of its era, while “Forever Young,” “Really,” and “See U Later” filled out the group’s first Korean EP. Later that year, BLACKPINK appeared with Dua Lipa on “Kiss and Make Up,” extending its reach into mainstream English-language pop.
The 2019 EP KILL THIS LOVE included the title song, “Don’t Know What to Do,” “Kick It,” “Hope Not,” and a remix of “DDU-DU DDU-DU.” That April, BLACKPINK became the first female K-pop group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a milestone that helped establish the group as a major international touring act.
BLACKPINK released its first Korean studio album, THE ALBUM, on October 2, 2020. The eight-song record included “How You Like That,” “Ice Cream” with Selena Gomez, “Pretty Savage,” “Bet You Wanna” with Cardi B, “Lovesick Girls,” “Crazy Over You,” “Love to Hate Me,” and “You Never Know.” It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200.
The group’s second Korean studio album, BORN PINK, arrived in September 2022. “Pink Venom” and “Shut Down” led an eight-song record that also contained “Typa Girl,” “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” “Hard to Love,” “The Happiest Girl,” “Tally,” and “Ready for Love.” The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making BLACKPINK the first female K-pop act to top the chart.
After the BORN PINK era, the members concentrated on solo projects while remaining active as a group under YG Entertainment. BLACKPINK contributed “The Girls” to BLACKPINK THE GAME in 2023 and returned with the digital single “JUMP” on July 11, 2025.
“JUMP” introduced a hardstyle-driven sound and became BLACKPINK’s first number-one song on the Billboard Global 200. It also reached number twenty-eight on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song arrived as the group began the DEADLINE World Tour, a stadium run that continued into January 2026.
BLACKPINK released its third Korean EP, DEADLINE, on February 27, 2026. The five-song project contained “JUMP,” “GO,” “Me and my,” “Champion,” and “Fxxxboy.” It was the group’s first new collection since BORN PINK and became its third top-ten release on the Billboard 200.
Across Korean releases, Japanese versions, collaborations, soundtracks, remixes, and live projects, BLACKPINK’s catalog reflects a group that has repeatedly translated a small number of recordings into worldwide cultural moments. Its influence reaches beyond K-pop through touring, fashion, streaming, video, and four distinct solo careers that continue alongside the group.
