Knocked Loose emerged from Oldham County, Kentucky, in 2013 with a sound built from hardcore urgency, metallic weight, and an unusually direct emotional vocabulary. Vocalist Bryan Garris, guitarist Isaac Hale, and bassist Kevin Otten helped establish the band during its earliest period, while the lineup later developed into Garris, Hale, guitarist Nicko Calderon, Otten, and drummer Kevin “Pac Sun” Kaine.
The first Knocked Loose recordings were the 2013 songs “Manipulator” and “The Have Nots.” The band followed them with Pop Culture in 2014, an EP containing “The Gospel,” “Separate,” “Manipulator II,” “Small Victories,” and the original version of “All My Friends.” That same period also produced the compilation track “SS” and a three-song split release featuring “Damned Earth,” “D.T.A.H.,” and “Burnt Toast.”
Laugh Tracks arrived through Pure Noise Records in 2016. Produced by Will Putney, the album introduced a much larger audience to “Oblivions Peak,” “Deadringer,” “Blood Will Have Blood,” “Billy No Mates,” and “Counting Worms.” Its short songs, sudden rhythmic shifts, and breakdown-driven arrangements became central to the band’s live identity.
The three-track Mistakes Like Fractures release appeared in 2019 with its title song, a cover of the Warriors’ “Slings and Arrows,” and a newly recorded version of “All My Friends.” A Different Shade of Blue followed later that year, expanding the group’s approach through “Belleville,” “Trapped in the Grasp of a Memory,” “A Serpent’s Touch,” “Guided by the Moon,” and “…And Still I Wander South.”
In 2021, Knocked Loose released A Tear in the Fabric of Life, a six-song narrative about grief, guilt, and the aftermath of a fatal accident. The EP moved without interruption from “Where Light Divides the Holler” through “Permanent” and was accompanied by an animated film that presented the entire story as one continuous work.
The standalone Upon Loss Singles arrived in 2023 with “Deep in the Willow” and “Everything Is Quiet Now.” Both songs sharpened the group’s use of atmosphere, dissonance, and abrupt transitions while maintaining the physical force associated with its earlier recordings.
You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To followed in 2024. The album included “Blinding Faith,” “Don’t Reach for Me,” “Suffocate” with Poppy, “Slaughterhouse 2” with Chris Motionless, and “Sit & Mourn.” “Suffocate” earned Knocked Loose and Poppy a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance, marking the band’s first nomination from the Recording Academy.
In February 2026, Knocked Loose released “Hive Mind,” a collaboration with Denzel Curry that connected the band’s hardcore foundation with Curry’s established interest in extreme music. A twelve-inch edition paired the vocal recording with an instrumental version. The release arrived as Knocked Loose continued playing major international festival, arena, and stadium dates.
Knocked Loose has moved from regional hardcore rooms to some of the world’s largest stages without softening the qualities that established the band. Across demos, EPs, albums, remixes, singles, and collaborations, the catalog remains centered on rhythmic impact, emotional confrontation, and the tension between control and complete release.
