Static Dress formed in Leeds, West Yorkshire, in 2018, initially bringing together vocalist Olli Appleyard, guitarist Tom Black, bassist Connor Reilly, and drummer Sam Kay. The band emerged from the orbit of the earlier group Galleries and quickly distinguished itself through a mix of post-hardcore, emo, screamo, metalcore, and the visual language of early-2000s alternative culture. Just as important as the music was the band’s approach to presentation, with videos, coded imagery, livestreams, comics, and other visual projects becoming part of the larger Static Dress world.

The first official Static Dress singles arrived in 2019 with “clean.,” “DSC_301,” and “Adaptive taste,” followed in 2020 by “safeword,” “for the attention of…,” and “indecent_.” The band expanded that early catalog through livestream performances and unusual artist-controlled releases before issuing Prologue… in 2021. That comic-book soundtrack included “sober exit(s),” “disposable care,” “vague.,” and a series of short atmospheric pieces that pushed the group beyond a conventional single-by-single rollout.

Static Dress released their debut studio album, Rouge Carpet Disaster, in 2022. Songs including “fleahouse,” “sweet.,” “Push rope,” “Attempt 8,” “Courtney, just relax,” and “Lye solution” combined aggressive post-hardcore with melodic passages, electronic detail, and increasingly elaborate storytelling. The 2023 Rouge Carpet Disaster (Redux) project then rebuilt the album through guest appearances, live recordings, remixes, and alternate versions involving artists including Sophie Meiers, World Of Pleasure, Loathe, BVDLVD, Hail The Sun, Creeper, Sølv, Bodyweb, and Ryder Johnson.

The lineup of Appleyard, guitarist Vincent Weight, bassist George Holding, and drummer Sam Ogden carried Static Dress into its next phase. After the standalone singles “crying,” “death to the overground.,” and “face.,” the band signed with Sumerian Records and released Injury Episode in 2026. The album included “human props,” “Nostalgia Kills” with Underoath, “…hospice,” “Pharmacy Film,” “Classic.Death.Pose.,” and “Treading,” while collaborations with nothing,nowhere. and Loathe further extended Static Dress beyond their own releases.
