Our Top 10 Skillet Songs list takes a listen to the songs of a Christian Rock band from Memphis, Tennessee formed in the mid 1990s. Hand down, the band Skillet just may be the greatest heavy Metal Christian rock band ever formed. Of course they have great competition, but this group is just so good we would put them up against anyone. Since 1996, the group has released ten studio albums while also releasing seventy one singles. This article looks to present ten really good ones to turn you on to this great band.
# 10 – Hey You I Love Your Soul
We open up our Skillet songs list with the title track from the band’s second studio album entitled Hey You, I Love Your Soul. The title track “Hey You, I Love Your Soul,” was also released as the first single from the album. The album was released in 1998. The single did really well on the US Billboard Christian rock tracks charts as it hit number one. The band sounds very different in 1998 than they do in the modern period in 2020. They’re a little less heavier here. The musicians in the band at the time included John L. Cooper on vocals and bass, Trey McClurkin on drums and Ken Steorts on guitar.
# 9 – Sick Of It
We jumped 15 years ahead in time to the Year 2013 in the number nine spot on our Skillet songs list with this very angry song entitled “Sick Of It.” The song was written as a response to the Boston bombings. “Sick Of It,” was released on the album Rise. It became a very popular song on the Billboard charts hitting number 1 on the US Billboard Christian rock charts. It also was a top 10 hit on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock charts tracks. It’s a very powerful emotional song in which John Cooper said that he was just so tired of all the horrible things going on in the world and this was his response.
# 8 – Legendary
Moving along our list, we take a listen to this incredible piece of music entitled “Legendary.” This is the most recently released song from the band to appear on our Skillet songs list. The song “Legendary,” was released on the band’s album entitled Victorious. The album was released in 2019. The song was a top 10 hit on the US Billboard Modern Rock tracks charts. The song has a great feel, full of power, it’s a bit of an anthem and it just makes you feel good.
# 7 – Hero
As a Christian rock band, many of the bands songs feature themes of universal appeal and hope. The songs speak to anyone who will listen. They are not preachy, yet there is deep meaning within the songs lyrics. This is great one in the way the vocals go back and forth between John Cooper and drummer Jen Ledger. The song was released in 2009 on the album Awake. This would become a very successful song on the charts as it hit number one on the US Billboard Christian Rock Tracks Charts. Even though the song is really written about Jesus Christ, the NFL used it at the start of a multiple NFL games over the years pinpointing the players as the heroes the song was written about. The song was also used by the WWE and in the movie trailer to the motion picture Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
# 6 – The Older I Get
In the number six spot on our Skillet songs list is the great track entitled “The Older I Get.” The band sounds a little bit like Creed on this one. It’s much less metal than many of their other songs. The song “The Older I Get.” was released on the band’s sixth studio album entitled, Comatose. The album was released in 2007. The song was a huge hit as it hit number 27 on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock tracks charts. It also was a top 20 hit on the US Billboard Hot Christian songs charts.
# 5 – The Resistance
As we break into the second half of our Skillet songs list we meet the resistance. That is the song “The Resistance,” of course. This one goes back to the metal sounds of the band, the loud drumming, heavy guitars, ripping bass, and anthemic vocals. This is another powerful song from this very powerful band. The song was released on the album Unleashed. The album came out in 2017. The song “The Resistance,” went gold in sales for the group
# 4 – Awake And Alive
In the number four spot on our Skillet songs list we present the great track entitled”Awake and Alive.” This hard rocking song was released on the band’s album entitled Awake. This was a really big hit for the band. The song hit number one on the US Billboard Christian rock charts. It also hit number one on the active rock radio charts which basically took statistics from radio both in the United States and in Canada.
# 3 – I Can
We go back all the way to the beginning for this amazing song entitled “I Can.” This great track was released on Skillet’s first album entitled Skillet. The album was released in 1997. Listen to the guitars on this track. It sounds like a mix between Metallica and Motorhead. This one blew everyone’s minds. There have been great Christian rock bands, but the potential that Skillet showed on their debut album was just simply off the charts. This is where it all began.
# 2 – Monster
It was tough to pick between the next two songs for the number one spot on our list. These are such two incredible pieces of music. The song “Monster,” was released on the band’s best album entitled Awake. The song “Monster,” was a major breakthrough hit for the band. The song was released as the second single from the album. It did incredibly well on the US Billboard Music Charts hitting number one on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 charts. It also went to number four on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock tracks charts. The song was the biggest selling single of their career selling over three million copies.
# 1 – Feel Invisible
In the number one spot on our Skillet songs list is the unbelievable song entitled “Feel Invisible.” This song pretty much sums up all that the band is about in their songs of hope, faith and empowerment in their beliefs. This band is as real as it gets and their embrace of the beliefs mixed within their brilliant musical talents and pure passion for their music is all on full display so wonderfully in this great songs entitled “Feel Invincible.”
