The band Aerosmith has announced that their longtime drummer and original band member Joey Kramer will not be joining them on their 2022 tour.  The great Joey Kramer who has been with the band since their inception and had been the only drummer the band has ever used on every single one of their recordings is supposedly taking a temporary leave from the band.  Aerosmith announced that Joey Kramer will not be joining the band on this tour because he needed to take care of his family during these “uncertain times.” The band was not specific as to whether the”uncertain times,” were based on personal issues within Joey Kramer’s family or whether it was pandemic related. Aerosmith did say that they were looking forward to Joey Kramer returning to the band in the future. We are not so sure about that based on some recent episodes between Joey Kramer and the band. This is not the first time that Joey Kramer took a leave from the band and was replaced by his drum technician Jack Douglas.

In the spring of  2019, Joey Kramer had to take a leave of absence from the band because of his shoulder injury. However, when Joey was feeling better and asked to get back in the group the band Aerosmith informed Joey Kramer that he would have to audition to get back in. It’s pretty amazing that a band that had been together since the early 1970s and had been through so much together would make one of their original members audition to get back into the group. Aerosmith is not a group that has been through a lot of personal changes over the years. It’s been the same five members in the group all along with Steven Tyler on lead vocals, Joe Perry, and Brad Whitford on guitars, Tom Hamilton on bass, and Joey Kramer on drums. The one exception was when Jimmy Crespo took Joe Perry’s place for the album Rock In A Hard Place.

Joey Kramer was so infuriated by the band’s refusal to allow him back into the group unless has passed an audition, he went and sued the group. He was especially angry because the band was being honored at The Grammys with a lifetime achievement award and Aerosmith would not let Joey Kramer join them for the show. Its’ a pretty head-scratching moment and we wonder what was really going on between Joey Krammer and the rest of the band.

In the end, Joey Kramer got back into Aerosmith and began to play shows with the group again. However, the pandemic canceled the band’s tour and all of their shows. Now with the recent announcement of the continuation of the Deuces Wild tour and Aerosmith’s Las Vegas Residency, the public are being informed that Joey Krammer is out again as Aerosmith’s drummer.  Will Joey Kramer be back with Aerosmith in the future? They say he will. We are not so sure about that. What’s the real story?
