Imagine being invited into a small room to watch Led Zeppelin perform. Now imagine that you were asked to sit in a circle on the same stage that Led Zeppelin was playing. You’re sitting one foot from Jimmy Page and Robert Plant. The air from John Bonham’s bass drum is hitting you square in the face. You can feel the rumblings of John Paul Jones’ bass resonating through your bones. Robert Plant’s vocal lines electrify your heart while Jimmy Page’s guitar work ignites your inner soul into a state of consciousness that is simply indescribable. Sounds like an incredible dream for any Led Zeppelin fan. Well not for a few lucky Danish rock fans in the early Spring of 1969.

Now of course in 1969, Led Zeppelin had not yet acquired their legendary status. However, while sitting on that stage, some of those fans must have realized they were witnessing the birth of a group that would become one of the most loved rock bands in history. The band opened with “Communication Breakdown,” and then shifted gears into the opening bass line of “Dazed and Confused.” After the epic performance of “Dazed,” the band  performed “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You.”

The band closed the set with “How Many More Times.” While watching the video, it is a sheer joy to see how much Robert Plant was enjoying singing those songs. For so many years, all we have witnessed is Robert Plant trying to distance himself from those days, or at least not wanting to look back. It is truly wonderful to find clips like these that show how dear the band was to Robert Plant in the early years.

Led Zeppelin released their debut album in 1969 entitled Led Zeppelin. The debut album was released in January of 1969 in the United States and then a few months later it was released in the United Kingdom in March of 1969. The band’s follow-up album Led Zeppelin II would also be released in 1969 in the month of October in both the United States and the United Kingdom. What a year that was.

The 1969 performance was included on the Led Zeppelin DVD box set that was released in 2003. It was a box set of live Led Zeppelin performances in the best quality that fans had even seen of vintage Led Zeppelin performances. To this day, this DVD box set still remains the ultimate live video release of vintage Led Zeppelin.
