I remember when I first purchased this album, I was very confused because the LP cover seemed to be backward. I guess you had to be there, but in the end, I discovered it was designed on purpose like that. Nonetheless, Ginger Baker’s first album with his group Air Force was a star-studded affair. The album was recorded live at the majestic Royal Albert Hall, in London. It is one of the greatest sounding concert halls in the world.
The lineup of musicians on the recording featured Ginger Baker on drums and percussion, plus vocals on “Early in the Morning,” Denny Laine on guitars and vocals, Ric Grech on bass and violin, Steve Winwood on Hammond organ, bass and vocals, Chris Wood on saxophone, and flute, Graham Bond on Hammond organ, saxophone and vocals, Harold McNair on saxophones and flute, Jeanette Jacobs on vocals, and Remi Kabaka and Phil Seamen on drums, and percussion.

Ginger Baker’s Air Force II
Released December 1970
Ginger Baker’s second album with Air Force was very different from the first album. Its unusual for a band to release a live album first and then a studio album second, but that’s what happened with this group. Ginger Baker’s Air Force II was recored in London at Trident Studios and Olympic Studios. The main lineup consisted of Ginger Baker on drums, percussion and vocals, Kenny Craddock on guitars, and keys, Colin Gibson on bass, Graham Bond on saxophone, and keys and vocals, Steve Gregory on saxophone, and flutes, Bud Beadle on saxophones, Diane Stewart on vocals, Catherine James on vocals and Neemoi “Speedy” Acquaye on drums, and percussion.

This is a great live recording from 1970 that was not released until fifty years later. The sound is not that great as it was recorded from the audience. However, the performance is mind-blowing.
