Billy Gibbons’ first solo album was released as credited to Billy Gibbons and The BFG’s. The band was made up of musicians Billy Gibbons on vocals, guitar, bass, Hammond B3, and Piano, Mike Flaniginon on Hammond B3, Alx “Guitarzza” Garza on bass Martin Guiguion on Hammond B3 and piano, and Joe Hardy on Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, and Vocals. As you can see this was an album that presented a lot of Hammond B3. It’s a sound that helps drive that southern rock Texas sound that Billy Gibbons is known for as a founding member of the Texas-based band ZZ Top. This is a stunning debut album by Billy Gibbons. Billy Gibbons’ second solo album is credited as Billy F. Gibbons. This is a stunning follow-up to his first solo album. The release was extremely successful as the album won an award for ‘Blues Rock Album of the Year’ at The Blues Music Awards presented yearly in Memphis, Tennessee. This is a smoking album that recalls Billy Gibbons’ early years with ZZ Top. It doesn’t get more Texas swinging blues than this.
The album featured an all-star lineup of musicians including Billy Gibbons on guitar, and harmonica, James Harman on harmonica, Joe Hardy on bass, Elwood Francis on guitar & harmonica, Greg Morrow on drums, ex-Guns N’ Roses member Matt Sorum on drums and Mike Flanigin on keyboards.

Billy Gibbons’ third solo album was recorded out in the desert surrounded by Rattlesnakes and Eagles. One can hear the ruggedness on the recordings. Every solo album Billy Gibbons releases just keeps getting better and better. It’s a smaller affair this time, but it rocks hard. The album featured Billy Gibbons’ partner in crime Matt Sorum on drums and even playing bass. Also, on the album was Austin Hanks on bass and guitar and Larkin Poe singing vocals on “Stackin’ Bones.”
