Like all great rock and roll bands from the Classic Rock Era, Foghat has released their share of iconic album covers. Some bands never appear on their covers, while others like to show off their mugs on every LP released. Foghat has released a mixed series of album covers that have balanced the line between portraits, still shots, and original designs without the presence of the band members. We think that has always been the best way to approach consecutive album releases. Our top 10 Foghat Album Covers list celebrates the covers that we feel made the greatest artistic statements throughout the band’s career.

Our two previous Foghat articles, The Top 10 Foghat Albums and The Top 10 Foghat Songs have been two of the most popular articles on our site. Even the band Foghat themselves liked one of our articles, as they took the time to post our Top 10 Foghat Songs article on their own Facebook page. The first Foghat album was released in 1972 entitled Foghat. They released their second album a year later in 1973 entitled Rock and Roll which featured one of our favorite Foghat Album covers. Since the release of Rock and Roll, the band has released 17 more albums. Their latest release Under the Influence was just issued in 2016.  We hope you find this Top 10 Foghat Albums Covers article a fun article to look at.

# 10 – Stone Blue

We thought Stone Blue would be the perfect Foghat Album Cover to open this list. The album was released in 1979 and featured Dave Peverett, Craig MacGregor, Rod Price and Roger Earl in an awesome display of photographic ingenuity and graphic design, Just way too cool!

# 9 – Rock and Roll

It’s amazing how such a simple concept can display such brilliance. Oh yeah! The great Foghat Rock and Roll album cover was released by Bearsville Records in 1973. The album did not feature the title in text form, but we think most people figured it out.

# 8 – Foghat

This great cover presented fans with their first look at the band on their debut record Foghat. The album was released in 1972.  We just loved the textures of the building in the background and the sepia tone of the photograph. We wonder how many people know that the legendary Dave Edmunds produced Foghat’s great debut album.

# 6 – NightShift

NightShift is easily one of the most iconic covers in the band’s history. It’s absolutely the greatest portrait of the band they ever released. The graphic design of the Foghat Logo in yellow-orange and white against the black background above the portrait made for an album cover to remember.

# 5 – Last Train Home

Entering the second half of our Top 10 Foghat Album Covers list is the second of two latter-day Foghat albums. We just lived the purple hue of the design. The old-time train station just perfectly captured the essence of the blues and traveling journeyman band image of Foghat. A band that has never quit despite the tragic loss of Rod Price and Dave Peverett. The Last Train Home album was released in 2010.

# 4 – Boogie Motel

How can you not love Foghat’s Boogie Motel album cover.Rock fans loved album covers with such detailed art that they could just stare at for hours while listening to the record. You don’t get that with iTunes or Spotify.(ugh) The album was named after a very poplar recording studio in Port Jefferson New York. Port Jefferson was a small town on Long Island famous for the Port Jefferson ferry that carries passengers between New York and Connecticut. The cover artwork was illustrated by artist Jim Baikie.

# 3 – Live

The great Foghat Live album cover utilized the same concept as albums such as Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti, and The Rolling Stones Some Girls in which the outer cover displayed through a cut out opening; the inner sleeve of the record. Foghat Live was released in 1977 and remains our favorite Foghat Album.

# 2 – In the Mood for Something Rude

Okay, well its pretty obvious why we like this cover. The album In the Mood for Something Rude was released in 1981. The album’s cover of course raised many issues with certain retailers and community groups. The record was also released with an alternative cover with just a flat red background and the title of the album stretched across the cover in a newsprint style setting.

# 1 – Fool For The City

Was there any doubt that this would not be our Number one choice on our Top 10 Foghat Album cover’s list? Foghat’s Fool For The City cover was simply brilliant on so many levels. Foghat groundbreaking album was released in 1975. It was Roger Earl who went fishing on 11 street in New York City on the day the picture was photographed.
