Boston is one of the most unique-sounding bands in classic rock history. They also released maybe the greatest debut album of all time. Some will debate that argument, but there is no doubt that it was at least one of the best. I will never forget being 15 years old when it first came out and being blown away by what I heard. This Complete List Of Boston Albums And Songs presents the full discography of Boston studio albums. The band was formed in the mid-1970s around guitarist, songwriter, producer, and studio mastermind Tom Scholz in the Boston, Massachusetts, area.

Boston has released six studio albums, beginning with its groundbreaking self-titled debut in 1976 and continuing through Life, Love & Hope in 2013. No seventh Boston studio album has been released through 2026. All six Boston studio albums are presented below in chronological order with their original release dates, album-cover code, and complete track listings.

BOSTON STUDIO ALBUMS

Boston (1976)

Released August 25, 1976

Boston is the debut album by the American rock band Boston, renowned for its refined sound combining hard rock power with an extraordinary melodic sensibility. The album was produced by Tom Scholz and John Boylan, with much of the music painstakingly developed by Scholz in his basement studio before the project was completed for Epic Records. Tom Scholz’s innovative studio techniques, Brad Delp’s soaring vocals, and the band’s melodic approach resulted in timeless tracks like “More Than a Feeling,” “Peace of Mind,” and “Foreplay/Long Time.” The album’s blend of rock vigor and intricate arrangements set a new standard in rock music and remains a landmark in the genre. Don’t Look Back (1978)

Released August 2, 1978

Don’t Look Back is Boston’s second studio album, following the massive success of their debut. Produced by Tom Scholz, the album continues the band’s signature sound of layered guitars, harmonized vocals, and carefully constructed arrangements. Two years was a long time to wait for this one. Scholz later made clear that he believed Epic Records pushed the album out before he considered it fully finished, but the record still delivered classic Boston songs including “Don’t Look Back,” “A Man I’ll Never Be,” “Feelin’ Satisfied,” and “Party.” While not as strong as the first Boston album in our view, it was still a wonderful follow-up and well worth the wait.

Third Stage (1986)

Released September 23, 1986

We thought the wait between the first two albums was long; we never expected the wait for the third album to be four times as long. Third Stage is Boston’s third studio album, released after an eight-year gap filled with painstaking recording work and a major legal battle between Tom Scholz and CBS. Produced and engineered by Scholz, the record was created largely at his Hideaway Studio and used his newly developed Rockman technology. Despite its futuristic textures, the album was famous for avoiding conventional synthesizers and orchestral players, with Scholz building its enormous sound from guitars, organs, pianos, drums, and studio effects. Third Stage included the hit singles “Amanda,” “We’re Ready,” and “Can’tcha Say (You Believe in Me)/Still in Love,” along with our favorite track on the album, “Cool the Engines.”

Walk On (1994)

Released June 7, 1994

Walk On is the fourth studio album by Boston and the only Boston studio album not to feature Brad Delp on lead vocals. Fran Cosmo handled the lead-vocal role, while Tom Scholz’s production, songwriting, guitars, keyboards, and studio craftsmanship remained central to the record. The title suite, “I Need Your Love,” “Surrender to Me,” and “Livin’ for You” carried the classic Boston trademarks into the 1990s. Brad Delp would return to perform with the band during the subsequent tour.

Corporate America (2002)

Corporate America is Boston’s fifth studio album. The record brought Brad Delp back to a Boston studio album after his absence from Walk On, while Fran Cosmo also returned and newer members including Kimberley Dahme and Anthony Cosmo took larger creative roles. The album broadened Boston’s sound and songwriting palette while its title track reflected Tom Scholz’s environmental and social concerns. “I Had a Good Time,” “Someone,” “Didn’t Mean to Fall in Love,” and “You Gave Up on Love” also became important parts of Boston’s later catalog.

Life, Love & Hope (2013)

Life, Love & Hope is the sixth and most recent Boston studio album. Released eleven years after Corporate America, it combines newly recorded material with extensively reworked songs that had appeared in earlier versions. The album features multiple lead vocalists, including Brad Delp on recordings completed before his death in 2007, along with Tommy DeCarlo, Kimberley Dahme, David Victor, and Tom Scholz. Tracks such as “Heaven on Earth,” “Sail Away,” “Life, Love & Hope,” and “The Way You Look Tonight” continued Boston’s tradition of polished guitars, stacked vocal harmonies, and painstaking studio production.
