Pablo Cruise was formed in 1973 in San Francisco, California. The band’s original lineup consisted of David Jenkins on guitar and vocals, Cory Lerios on keyboards and vocals, Bud Cockrell on bass and vocals, and Steve Price on drums and percussion. The group developed a smooth California rock sound that blended pop, rock, funk, and jazz-influenced elements.

Pablo Cruise released seven studio albums for A&M Records between 1975 and 1983: Pablo Cruise (1975), Lifeline (1976), A Place in the Sun (1977), Worlds Away (1978), Part of the Game (1979), Reflector (1981), and Out of Our Hands (1983). Their most successful studio album, Worlds Away, reached number six on the Billboard 200 and included the hit singles “Love Will Find a Way” and “Don’t Want to Live Without It.”

The band’s breakthrough came with “Whatcha Gonna Do?” from A Place in the Sun, followed by additional chart success with “Love Will Find a Way,” “Don’t Want to Live Without It,” “I Want You Tonight,” and “Cool Love.” Pablo Cruise later reunited after a long hiatus and continues to perform, with founding members David Jenkins, Cory Lerios, and Steve Price still associated with the current band.

The album features David Jenkins on guitar and vocals, Cory Lerios on keyboards and vocals, Bud Cockrell on bass and vocals, and Steve Price on drums and percussion. Michael James Jackson produced the album, which was recorded at several California studios, including the Record Plant in Sausalito.

Lifeline

Lifeline is Pablo Cruise’s second studio album, released in 1976. The album continued the band’s developing mix of rock, pop, and melodic California grooves while expanding its arrangements and studio sound.

The album again features David Jenkins, Cory Lerios, Bud Cockrell, and Steve Price. Lifeline was produced by Val Garay.

It reached number six on the Billboard 200 and produced the hit singles “Love Will Find a Way,” “Don’t Want to Live Without It,” and “I Go to Rio.” “Love Will Find a Way” reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100.

By this album, Bruce Day had replaced original bassist Bud Cockrell. The core lineup featured David Jenkins on guitar and vocals, Cory Lerios on keyboards, Bruce Day on bass and vocals, and Steve Price on drums and percussion. Bill Schnee produced the album, which was recorded primarily at the Record Plant in Sausalito with additional recording at Redwing Sound in Los Angeles.

Reflector

Released July 1981

Reflector is Pablo Cruise’s sixth studio album, released in 1981. The album reached number thirty-four on the Billboard 200 and included “Cool Love,” which became the band’s final Top 40 hit, reaching number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100. “Slip Away” also charted.

The album marked another lineup change, with John Pierce on bass and vocals and Angelo Rossi joining on guitar and vocals alongside David Jenkins, Cory Lerios, and Steve Price. Tom Dowd produced the album, which was recorded at the Record Plant in Sausalito and Criteria Studios in Miami.

Out of Our Hands is Pablo Cruise’s seventh studio album and the band’s final studio album for A&M Records. Its sound reflected the changing early-1980s pop landscape, with a heavier emphasis on synthesizers and contemporary production. The album includes the single “Will You, Won’t You.”

The album features David Jenkins on guitar and vocals, Cory Lerios on keyboards, synthesizers, and vocals, John Pierce on bass and vocals, and David Perper on drums, with additional guitar contributions from Stef Birnbaum and Angelo Rossi and additional drums and percussion from Steve Price. Pablo Cruise produced the album with Jim Gaines.
