The Police originated out of London, England, in 1977, bringing together the talents of Sting (Gordon Sumner) on bass and vocals, Stewart Copeland on drums, and Andy Summers on guitar. Initially influenced by punk, the band evolved into pioneers of a unique sound that blended rock, reggae, and new wave elements.
