Trapeze never became a household name, but the band’s catalog connects several major currents in British rock: late-1960s psychedelia, early progressive rock, heavy blues, hard funk, and the arena-ready sound that Glenn Hughes, Mel Galley, and Dave Holland later carried into Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and Judas Priest. The restored list below follows every album-track appearance from the original studio releases through the two archival Lost Tapes collections.

Trapeze formed in Cannock, Staffordshire, in 1969 by combining musicians from two established local groups. Vocalist John Jones and keyboardist Terry Rowley came from the Montanas, while bassist and singer Glenn Hughes, guitarist Mel Galley, and drummer Dave Holland had worked together in Finders Keepers. The five-piece signed with Threshold Records, the label founded by the Moody Blues, and released its self-titled debut in 1970.

The first Trapeze album mixed psychedelic rock, progressive arrangements, brass, keyboards, and pop harmonies. “Send Me No More Letters,” backed with “Another Day,” became the group’s first single. Jones and Rowley left later in 1970, leaving Hughes, Galley, and Holland to continue as the power trio that defined Trapeze’s best-known period.

Medusa, released later in 1970, replaced much of the debut’s orchestration with a leaner blend of hard rock, blues, soul, and funk. “Black Cloud,” “Jury,” “Seafull,” and the title track established the trio’s heavier direction, while extensive American touring gave Trapeze an especially devoted audience in Texas and other parts of the southern United States.

The third studio album, You Are the Music… We’re Just the Band, followed in 1972. Produced by Neil Slaven and featuring guests including Rod Argent and B. J. Cole, the record balanced the force of “Way Back to the Bone” and “Keepin’ Time” with more melodic songs such as “Coast to Coast” and “Will Our Love End.” It became the band’s first album to reach a United States chart.

Hughes left Trapeze in 1973 to join Deep Purple. Galley and Holland rebuilt the group with guitarist Rob Kendrick and bassist Pete Wright, releasing Hot Wire in 1974 and another self-titled album in 1975. Hughes returned as a guest vocalist on “Chances” and “Nothin’ for Nothing,” and the classic trio briefly reunited for concerts in 1976.

Peter Goalby later joined as lead vocalist and guitarist for the band’s final studio sessions. The resulting album first appeared in Germany as Running in 1978. A resequenced version with modified track titles was released in the United Kingdom as Hold On in 1979 and in the United States in 1980. Because the source article listed both configurations separately, this restoration preserves each documented album appearance.

Holland left to join Judas Priest in 1979, while Galley later became a member of Whitesnake. Trapeze ended its regular activity in the early 1980s, though Hughes, Galley, and Holland reunited for shows in 1992 and again in 1994. Galley died in 2008 and Holland died in 2018.

The band’s studio history continued to expand after its active years. The Final Swing included the previously unreleased studio tracks “Good Love” and “Dat’s It.” Lost Tapes Vol. 1 arrived in 2023 with fourteen archival recordings, followed by another fourteen-track collection, Lost Tapes Vol. 2, in 2024.

This catalog is organized by album-track appearance rather than by unique composition. It therefore retains repeated songs when they appeared on both Running and Hold On or returned in archival versions on the Lost Tapes releases. Live albums and concert-only recordings are outside the scope of this list.
