Rita Ora was born in Pristina, Kosovo, and moved to London with her family as an infant as they escaped the political instability and persecution of Albanians in the region. Raised in West London, Ora attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School and developed her voice through performance, theater, and open-mic appearances. Roc Nation signed her in 2008, beginning the professional recording career that eventually brought her to an international audience.

Ora’s breakthrough arrived through DJ Fresh’s “Hot Right Now,” which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2012. Her debut album, Ora, followed later that year and also entered the British chart at number one. “R.I.P.” featuring Tinie Tempah and “How We Do (Party)” became additional chart-toppers, while “Shine Ya Light,” “Radioactive,” “Roc the Life,” and “Facemelt” established her mix of pop, R&B, dance music, and club production.

After the success of her debut, Ora remained highly visible through singles and collaborations while contractual disputes delayed her second album. “I Will Never Let You Down,” written and produced by Calvin Harris, became another UK number-one single in 2014. That same year, Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow,” featuring Ora, became a major international crossover hit. “Poison,” “Body on Me,” “Doing It,” and “Coming Home” extended her presence across pop, hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music.

Inspired in part by her relationship and marriage to filmmaker Taika Waititi, the album presented a more autobiographical approach through “You Only Love Me,” “Praising You,” “Don’t Think Twice,” “Shape of Me,” “Girl in the Mirror,” and the title track. The record combined intimate writing with polished dance-pop and electronic production.

Ora continued releasing music after You & I. “Drinkin’” appeared in 2023, followed by “Ask & You Shall Receive,” “LAST OF US,” “Shape of Me” featuring Keith Urban, and the soundtrack recording “Love Ain’t It” in 2024. Her 2025 singles “Heat,” “Joy,” and “All Natural” introduced another pop era, with “Heat” presented as an early preview of material intended for a fourth studio album.

In 2026, Ora appeared on “RISE UP (THE ANTHEM)” and joined Brazilian producer ZERB for “If It’s Not Love.” The latter was followed by the four-track If It’s Not Love: REFRESHED remix EP. She also returned as the Queen of Hearts in Disney’s Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, performing “Mad” with Leonardo Nam and “The Girl I Used to Be” with Brandy.

Beyond recording, Ora has built an extensive career in film and television. She portrayed Mia Grey in the Fifty Shades film series and later joined the Descendants franchise. Her television work has included coaching or judging roles on The Voice UK, The X Factor, The Masked Singer, and The Voice Australia, along with hosting America’s Next Top Model.

Ora has also supported charitable and humanitarian causes, including UNICEF, refugee advocacy, breast cancer research, and organizations assisting children and families. Her family’s refugee experience has remained an important part of her public identity and her support for displaced people.
