Nothing But Thieves can move from a whisper to a full-scale eruption without losing the tension that makes their music instantly recognizable. Their songs balance Conor Mason’s remarkable range with sharp guitar work, electronic detail, social unease, intimate confession, and choruses built to fill enormous rooms. The result is a catalog that keeps changing its surface while holding tightly to the emotional intensity at its center.

Nothing But Thieves formed in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, in 2012. The band consists of lead vocalist Conor Mason, guitarists Joe Langridge-Brown and Dominic Craik, bassist Philip Blake, and drummer James Price. After building an audience through early independent recordings and live performances, the group signed with RCA Records in 2014.

The early EPs If You Don’t Believe, It Can’t Hurt You, Graveyard Whistling, Ban All the Music, and Urchin introduced songs including “Itch,” “Emergency,” “Last Orders,” “Graveyard Whistling,” and “Ban All the Music.” The band’s self-titled debut album followed in 2015 and reached number seven on the UK Albums Chart. “Trip Switch,” “Wake Up Call,” “If I Get High,” “Excuse Me,” “Honey Whiskey,” and “Lover, Please Stay” displayed the contrast between the band’s muscular arrangements and Mason’s elastic voice.

Broken Machine arrived in 2017 and peaked at number two in the United Kingdom. “Amsterdam,” “Sorry,” “Particles,” “I Was Just a Kid,” “Live Like Animals,” “Soda,” and the title track expanded the band’s sound while retaining its guitar-driven identity. Nothing But Thieves also recorded an acoustic version of “Broken Machine” for the #IAMWHOLE mental health campaign.

The 2018 EP What Did You Think When You Made Me This Way? contained “Forever & Ever More,” “Gods,” “You Know Me Too Well,” and “Take This Lonely Heart.” Two years later, Moral Panic addressed technology, social division, anxiety, power, and alienation through songs including “Is Everybody Going Crazy?,” “Impossible,” “Real Love Song,” “Unperson,” “Phobia,” and “Can You Afford to Be an Individual?”

Moral Panic II followed in 2021 with “Futureproof,” “If I Were You,” “Miracle, Baby,” “Ce n’est Rien,” and “Your Blood.” Those recordings were later combined with the original album as Moral Panic: The Complete Edition. The stand-alone orchestral performance of “Impossible,” recorded live at Abbey Road, offered one of the clearest demonstrations of Mason’s vocal range.

Dead Club City became Nothing But Thieves’ first number-one album in the United Kingdom when it was released in 2023. “Welcome to the DCC,” “Overcome,” “Tomorrow Is Closed,” “City Haunts,” “Keeping You Around,” “Pop the Balloon,” and “Members Only” formed a concept-driven collection built around a fictional city promising escape, entertainment, and control. The expanded edition added “Oh No :: He Said What?,” “Time :: Fate :: Karma :: God,” “Pure You,” stripped arrangements, and live recordings.

The band also moved beyond its album catalog through “Holding Out for a Hero,” a cover recorded for a Vikings trailer, its version of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” “Life’s Coming in Slow” from the Gran Turismo 7 soundtrack, and the dance collaboration “Something On My Mind” with Purple Disco Machine and Duke Dumont.

Nothing But Thieves began its next chapter in 2026 with “Evolution” and “Stray Dogs.” Both songs were released ahead of the band’s fifth studio album, Stray Dogs, scheduled for September 25, 2026. The album contains twelve tracks and continues the group’s return to a rawer, more collaborative rock sound.

Beyond the music, Nothing But Thieves has repeatedly supported mental health awareness. The band worked with the #IAMWHOLE campaign and participated in the Headstock Weekender, which raised funds for organizations including Help Musicians and Manchester Mind. Mason has also written publicly about mental health, emotional vulnerability, and the pressure placed on men to remain silent about personal struggles.

The band’s longevity comes from its refusal to settle into one narrow version of alternative rock. Nothing But Thieves can sound intimate, confrontational, electronic, orchestral, dance-oriented, or brutally direct, but the combination of Mason’s voice and the group’s tightly controlled dynamics keeps the catalog connected.
