Niall Horan was born on September 13, 1993, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. His music career began when he auditioned for the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010 as a solo contestant. Although eliminated as a solo artist, he was brought back to form the group One Direction with four other contestants—Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. The band quickly became one of the most successful boy bands of all time, releasing five albums between 2011 and 2015 and achieving global recognition before going on indefinite hiatus in 2016.

Following One Direction’s hiatus, Niall Horan signed a solo record deal with Capitol Records and began work on his own material. His debut solo single, “This Town,” was released in September 2016 and charted in several countries, peaking at number nine on the UK Singles Chart and number twenty on the US Billboard Hot 100. “This Town” was certified platinum in the United States, Australia, Canada, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

In October 2017, Horan released his debut solo album, Flicker. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and also reached number one in Ireland and the Netherlands. The record was certified platinum in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Flicker spawned several singles, including “Slow Hands,” which reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart and number eleven on the US Billboard Hot 100, and was certified multi-platinum in multiple territories. Other singles from the album include “Too Much to Ask,” “On the Loose,” and “Seeing Blind” (featuring Maren Morris).

Flicker led to the Flicker Sessions 2017 and the Flicker World Tour in 2018, with Horan performing across Europe, North America, Oceania, and Asia. He appeared at several international festivals, including the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards and iHeartRadio Music Festival. In 2017, he was awarded the Choice Song: Male Artist at the Teen Choice Awards for “Slow Hands.”

In March 2020, Niall Horan released his second studio album, Heartbreak Weather, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and the Irish Albums Chart. The album also reached number four on the US Billboard 200. Singles from Heartbreak Weather include “Nice to Meet Ya,” “Put a Little Love on Me,” “No Judgement,” and the title track “Heartbreak Weather.” “Nice to Meet Ya” reached number twenty-two on the UK Singles Chart and was certified platinum in the UK and gold in Australia and the US.

Tour plans in support of Heartbreak Weather were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with Horan later performing in virtual concerts and streaming events. He also participated in charity events such as the Together at Home benefit concert and supported initiatives for frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic.

In June 2023, Horan released his third studio album, The Show. The album entered the charts in the top ten in multiple countries and was preceded by singles including “Heaven” and “Meltdown.” “Heaven” charted in the UK, Australia, and Ireland, and Horan performed on a variety of television shows and music festivals to promote the album. He launched The Show: Live on Tour in 2024, playing venues in Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia.

Beyond his solo music career, Niall Horan has collaborated with other artists and participated in high-profile musical events. He has worked with Anne-Marie on the single “Our Song,” released in May 2021, which reached number thirteen on the UK Singles Chart. Horan has also joined Lewis Capaldi for a co-headlining tour in the UK and Ireland.

Throughout his career, Niall Horan has been recognized with numerous awards and nominations, including BMI London Awards, American Music Awards, iHeartRadio Music Awards, and Teen Choice Awards. He has also been a coach on the television show The Voice in the United States, winning his first season as a coach in 2023 with contestant Gina Miles.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Horan is involved in various charitable activities. He supports the Irish Autism Action and Golf Ireland, and he has hosted charity golf events to raise funds for children’s hospitals. Horan is also an avid golfer, often participating in celebrity tournaments and pro-am events.
