Freak Of Nature Songs

Freak of Nature was a hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in the early 1990s by Danish vocalist Mike Tramp following the breakup of White Lion. Seeking a heavier, grittier sound and a more collaborative band dynamic, Tramp began writing with guitarist Oliver Steffensen. Bassist Jerry Best, guitarist Kenny Korade, and drummer Johnny Haro subsequently joined the project. Steffensen departed before the band recorded its debut album and was replaced by guitarist Dennis Chick.

The band’s self-titled debut album, Freak of Nature, was released on March 29, 1993, through Music for Nations. It presented a darker and harder sound than Tramp’s previous work. The eleven-song album included “Turn the Other Way,” “What Am I,” “Rescue Me,” “’92,” “Possessed,” and “Are You Ready.” Freak of Nature supported the release through an extensive touring schedule across the United States, Europe, and Japan.

Freak of Nature released its second studio album, Gathering of Freaks, in 1994. Produced by Phil Kaffel, the twelve-song album opened with the instrumental “The Gathering” and included “Enemy,” “Stand Back,” “Big Black Hole,” “Candle,” “Need,” and “The Parting.” The album reached number 66 on the UK Albums Chart and number 19 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums Chart. After the recording sessions, Kenny Korade was replaced by guitarist Marcus Nand.

The band continued touring after the release of Gathering of Freaks but ended its recording and touring career during the mid-1990s. In 1998, Outcasts collected thirteen B-sides, demos, outtakes, and previously unreleased recordings. The album included alternate versions of several songs from the debut alongside recordings including “Blame It on the Fool,” “One Love,” “Where You Belong,” “Wartime,” “Dead and Gone,” “I Regret,” and “Disturbing the Peace.”

All three Freak of Nature albums were remastered and reissued by Mighty Music in 2021. Mike Tramp later described the band’s three active years as one of the most meaningful periods of his career, emphasizing the musicians’ shared creative responsibility and strong sense of brotherhood.
