Beady Eye emerged directly from the final lineup of Oasis after Noel Gallagher left that band in 2009. Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock chose to continue writing and recording together under a new name, creating a group that retained their established chemistry while giving each member a larger role in the songwriting.

The first Beady Eye recording, “Bring the Light,” arrived in November 2010 as a piano-driven rock song written by Liam Gallagher. “Four Letter Word,” “The Roller,” and “Sons of the Stage” followed before the release of Different Gear, Still Speeding in 2011. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the album moved between concise rock songs, psychedelic passages, acoustic writing, and the expansive closing track “The Morning Son.”

The debut album included compositions by Gallagher, Archer, and Bell, reinforcing the group’s identity as a shared creative project rather than a vehicle for one principal songwriter. “Millionaire,” “The Beat Goes On,” “Wigwam,” “Kill for a Dream,” and “Standing on the Edge of the Noise” became central parts of the band’s early live performances.

Beady Eye also released a concentrated group of non-album recordings during 2010 and 2011. These included “World Outside My Room,” “Two of a Kind,” “In the Bubble with a Bullet,” “Man of Misery,” and a cover of World of Twist’s “Sons of the Stage.” Their version of the Beatles’ “Across the Universe” was issued to support the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

The band’s second album, BE, arrived in 2013 with production by Dave Sitek. “Flick of the Finger,” “Soul Love,” “Second Bite of the Apple,” “Shine a Light,” and “Don’t Brother Me” introduced electronic details, unconventional guitar treatments, and a more pronounced psychedelic atmosphere. Deluxe and regional editions expanded the album with “Dreaming of Some Space,” “The World’s Not Set in Stone,” “Back After the Break,” “Off at the Next Exit,” “Girls in Uniform,” and “Evil Eye.”

Live performance remained a major part of the band’s identity. The digital iTunes Festival: London 2011 EP preserved four performances from the Roundhouse, while a limited Record Store Day box set included three recordings made for KEXP. In 2012, Beady Eye performed “Wonderwall” with the London Symphony Orchestra during the closing ceremony of the London Olympic Games.

Liam Gallagher announced the end of Beady Eye in October 2014. The members subsequently returned to other projects: Gallagher established a successful solo career, Bell resumed work with Ride, and Archer and Sharrock joined Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Archer and Bell later reunited onstage with Liam as members of the Oasis touring lineup in 2025.

Beady Eye existed for only a few years, but the band produced two substantial albums and a focused collection of singles, B-sides, alternate versions, charity recordings, and live releases.
