Metro Boomin, whose real name is Leland Tyler Wayne, is an American record producer, record executive, and DJ from St. Louis, Missouri. He began his career in music production while still in high school, initially making beats on a laptop that his mother bought him in the seventh grade. His mother would drive him from St. Louis to Atlanta to collaborate with artists he met online. By age 16, Metro Boomin was producing for established artists in the Atlanta hip-hop scene.
Metro Boomin gained significant attention for his work with artists including Future, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane, and Young Thug. In 2013, he produced the single “Karate Chop” for Future, which marked a turning point in his career. He continued to build his reputation with major production credits on songs for Future, including “Honest” and “Mask Off.” Metro also became known for his signature producer tag, “Metro Boomin want some more, nigga!” voiced by Future.
He released his debut mixtape as a solo artist, 19 & Boomin, in 2013. Metro Boomin’s collaboration with Future and Drake on the 2015 mixtape What a Time to Be Alive further elevated his profile. He produced multiple tracks for that project, as well as for Future’s DS2 album. Throughout the late 2010s, Metro produced a series of successful singles for various artists, including “Jumpman” by Drake and Future, “Where Ya At” by Future featuring Drake, and “Tuesday” by ILoveMakonnen featuring Drake.
Metro Boomin released a collaborative album with 21 Savage titled Savage Mode in 2016, which was well received and included the hit single “X” featuring Future. In 2017, he produced hits such as “Bad and Boujee” by Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert, “Tunnel Vision” by Kodak Black, and “Mask Off” by Future. He was named Producer of the Year at the 2016 and 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards.
Metro’s debut solo studio album, Not All Heroes Wear Capes, was released in November 2018. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and featured artists such as Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Young Thug, and Drake. The album included singles including “Space Cadet” with Gunna and “No Complaints” with Offset and Drake.
In October 2020, Metro Boomin and 21 Savage released Savage Mode II, the sequel to their earlier collaboration. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced singles such as “Runnin” and “Mr. Right Now” featuring Drake. In December 2022, Metro Boomin released his second solo studio album, Heroes & Villains, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and included collaborations with artists including Future, Chris Brown, Travis Scott, and Don Toliver.
Some of Metro Boomin’s biggest hit singles as a producer include “Jumpman,” “Mask Off,” “Bad and Boujee,” “Congratulations” by Post Malone featuring Quavo, “Bank Account” by 21 Savage, and “Heartless” by The Weeknd. He is known for his frequent collaborations with Future, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Drake, and Migos.
Metro Boomin has received numerous awards and nominations, including BET Hip Hop Awards for Producer of the Year, BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, and Grammy nominations for his work on several projects. He has been recognized for his influence on the sound of modern hip-hop and trap music.
Outside of music, Metro Boomin has participated in philanthropic activities, such as supporting St. Louis-area youth programs and community organizations. He has spoken publicly about his experiences growing up in St. Louis and his commitment to giving back to his hometown.
Metro Boomin’s discography as a lead or co-lead artist includes projects such as Not All Heroes Wear Capes (2018), Savage Mode II (2020, with 21 Savage), Heroes & Villains (2022), We Don’t Trust You (2024, with Future), and We Still Don’t Trust You (2024, with Future). He has also released collaborative albums, soundtrack projects, mixtapes, and numerous singles while producing tracks for a wide range of artists.
In 2025, Metro Boomin released the 24-track mixtape Metro Boomin Presents: A Futuristic Summa (Hosted by DJ Spinz), a project centered on Atlanta’s club-rap traditions. In January 2026, he joined French Montana and Max B for the collaborative single “Metro Wave.”
