Mk.gee is the recording name of Michael Gordon, a singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who grew up in South Jersey before moving to Los Angeles at eighteen. He enrolled in the popular music program at USC Thornton School of Music, but his interests quickly moved beyond formal training toward recording, production, and an increasingly personal approach to the guitar. His music has drawn from R&B, pop, rock, funk, psychedelia, and lo-fi experimentation without settling comfortably into any one of those styles.

Gordon’s earliest released project was 8ams, a short collection he put out through SoundCloud in 2016 while he was still learning how to shape songs on his own. His 2018 releases Pronounced McGee and Fool developed that language further, moving between sun-bleached psych-funk, soft-focus R&B, acoustic textures, and bedroom production. Songs such as “I Know How You Get,” “Roll with the Punches,” “You,” and “New Year” helped establish the unusual rhythmic and harmonic instincts that would become increasingly central to his work.

The 2020 mixtape A Museum Of Contradiction pushed Mk.gee toward a stranger and more fragmented sound through tracks including “cz,” “Western,” “dimeback,” and the Vegyn collaboration “>;0.” Four years later, Two Star & The Dream Police became his first full studio album and brought a much wider audience to songs such as “Are You Looking Up,” “How many miles,” “Alesis,” “Dream police,” and “I Want.” The record also intensified attention around Gordon’s heavily processed guitar sound and his instinct for making polished pop ideas feel unstable, intimate, and difficult to pin down.

Mk.gee followed the album with the standalone 2024 singles “Lonely Fight” and “ROCKMAN,” while his work as a producer and musician continued to reach beyond his own releases. He has worked closely with Dijon and later contributed extensively to Justin Bieber’s music, further extending his influence as both a player and a studio collaborator. Across his own catalog, the connecting thread remains an interest in unusual texture, direct songwriting, and recordings that preserve the feeling of discovery rather than smoothing away every rough edge.
