Shinedown formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2001, led by vocalist Brent Smith. The band has undergone several lineup changes over the years, maintaining a dynamic presence in the rock music scene. Shinedown is known for its hard rock sound, powerful vocals, and emotionally charged lyrics. The band has released eight studio albums, from Leave a Whisper (2003) to EI8HT (2026). Shinedown has achieved significant commercial success with hits like “Second Chance,” “Sound of Madness,” and many others. The band has sold more than ten million albums worldwide and, by 2026, had extended its record to 23 number one singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.

Throughout their career, Shinedown has been recognized for their musical achievements with various award nominations and wins. Several of their albums have reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200, and the band’s catalog has earned numerous gold and platinum certifications. Shinedown has also been a prominent fixture in the rock music circuit, known for extensive touring and energetic live performances that have contributed to their enduring popularity. The official lineup in 2026 consists of Brent Smith, Barry Kerch, Zach Myers, and Eric Bass.

Brent Smith

Brent Smith is the founding member and lead vocalist of Shinedown, having formed the band in 2001. His powerful voice and dynamic stage presence have been pivotal in defining the band’s sound and success. Smith has been involved in the creation of all eight Shinedown studio albums, from Leave a Whisper in 2003 through EI8HT in 2026. He has also been deeply involved in the writing process for many of the band’s hits. Beyond Shinedown, Smith has collaborated with other artists and has also worked with Zach Myers in the acoustic project Smith & Myers.

Barry Kerch

Barry Kerch is the drummer and the only other remaining founding era member of Shinedown alongside Brent Smith. Shinedown’s official history identifies Smith and Kerch as forming the band together in Jacksonville in 2001. Kerch has been a consistent presence behind the kit and has played on all eight of Shinedown’s studio albums. His solid, energetic drumming style has remained a central part of the band’s hard rock sound. Outside of Shinedown, Kerch has kept a relatively low profile, focusing primarily on his work with the band.

Zach Myers

Zach Myers first worked with Shinedown as a touring guitarist beginning in 2005 before becoming a permanent member in 2008. He contributed guitar and backing vocals to The Sound of Madness and has remained part of every Shinedown studio album since then, including Amaryllis, Threat to Survival, Attention Attention, Planet Zero, and EI8HT. Myers’ guitar work is a key component of Shinedown’s sound, characterized by melodic riffs, heavy rhythm work, and strong live performances. Apart from Shinedown, Myers has worked with Brent Smith in the duo Smith & Myers.

Eric Bass

Eric Bass joined Shinedown in 2008 as bassist and backing vocalist during the transition surrounding The Sound of Madness. He is credited as a performer on that album and became a permanent part of the lineup that followed. Bass has since contributed to every Shinedown studio album, including Amaryllis, Threat to Survival, Attention Attention, Planet Zero, and EI8HT. His musical contributions extend beyond bass playing to songwriting, arranging, engineering, mixing, and production. Bass played a major production role on Attention Attention and served as producer, engineer, and mixer on EI8HT.

Nick Perri

Nick Perri joined Shinedown as lead guitarist in 2008 during the band’s major lineup transition. Although his tenure was brief, Perri did participate in The Sound of Madness and is credited for guitar on the album. He left Shinedown later in 2008 as Zach Myers became the band’s permanent guitarist. Before and after his time with Shinedown, Perri gained recognition for his work with Silvertide, Perry Farrell, and his own musical projects, including Nick Perri & The Underground Thieves.

Jasin Todd

Jasin Todd was Shinedown’s original guitarist, joining the band in 2001 after Brent Smith began assembling the first lineup. Todd was instrumental in the creation and success of the early albums, including Leave a Whisper (2003) and Us and Them (2005). His guitar work helped shape the band’s early sound with a blend of gritty riffs and melodic hooks. Todd’s departure was officially announced in April 2008 after changes within the band had already been developing. After leaving Shinedown, Todd continued his musical career with other projects.

Brad Stewart

Brad Stewart was the original bassist for Shinedown, joining the band in 2001 and playing on the debut album Leave a Whisper and the second release, Us and Them. Stewart’s bass playing was foundational in establishing Shinedown’s heavy, melodic rock sound. He left the band in 2007 during the transition that eventually led to Eric Bass joining the lineup. After Shinedown, Stewart remained active in music, including work with bands such as Fuel, Burn Season, Society Red, and Saliva.
