Spiritbox was formed in 2016 in Victoria, British Columbia. The band was founded by former members of the metalcore band Iwrestledabearonce, Courtney LaPlante and her husband, guitarist Mike Stringer. Spiritbox quickly gained attention in the metal scene for their innovative blend of metalcore, progressive metal, and djent elements. The band has released a series of singles and EPs that culminated in their debut full-length album, “Eternal Blue,” in 2021. This album achieved significant chart success, including reaching the top of the Billboard Hard Rock chart. Spiritbox is known for their technical proficiency, atmospheric soundscapes, and LaPlante’s versatile vocal abilities, ranging from melodic singing to aggressive screams.
Courtney LaPlante
Courtney LaPlante is the lead vocalist and one of the founding members of Spiritbox. She has been with the band since its inception in 2016. LaPlante’s vocal range and ability to switch between clean singing and harsh screams have been pivotal to the band’s sound. Her lyrical content, often introspective and emotive, adds depth to their music. Courtney played a significant role in the writing and recording of their debut album, “Eternal Blue,” where her performances received widespread acclaim. Prior to Spiritbox, she was the lead vocalist for Iwrestledabearonce, which adds to her experience and versatility as a metal vocalist.
Mike Stringer
Mike Stringer, the guitarist and another founding member of Spiritbox, is instrumental in crafting the band’s sound. His guitar work is known for its technical intricacies and melodic overlays. Stringer has been involved in all aspects of the band’s music production, from songwriting to the intricate layering of guitar tracks on their recordings. His contribution to “Eternal Blue” helped define the album’s sound, characterized by its heavy riffs and atmospheric elements. Before Spiritbox, Stringer also played with Iwrestledabearonce, bringing a wealth of experience in metalcore and progressive metal to the band.
Zev Rose
Zev Rose joined Spiritbox as the drummer in 2021, bringing new dynamics to the band’s rhythm section. His drumming style, characterized by complex patterns and heavy hitting, complements the band’s aggressive yet melodic sound. Rose’s involvement came right around the release of “Eternal Blue,” and his live performances have been key to the band’s recent tours and shows, contributing to their reputation as a powerful live act.
Josh Gilbert
Josh Gilbert is the bassist for Spiritbox, joining the band alongside Zev Rose in 2021. His bass lines provide the low-end backbone necessary for the band’s dense compositions. While newer to the group, his musicianship has quickly integrated into the band’s overall sound, supporting their live performances and adding depth to their studio recordings. Gilbert’s previous experience as a session musician has equipped him with a broad skill set that enhances the band’s dynamic range.

Ryan Loerke
Ryan Loerke was the original drummer for Spiritbox and played with the band during its early years. Loerke contributed to their initial singles and EPs, helping to establish the band’s sound. His drumming laid the foundation for the band’s rhythmic complexity. Loerke left the band before the recording of “Eternal Blue,” seeking other musical opportunities.
Bill Crook
Bill Crook was the band’s bassist until 2021. Crook played a crucial role in the recording of the early Spiritbox releases, including their self-titled EP and several standalone singles. His bass playing helped shape the groove and heaviness of the band’s earlier material. Crook departed to pursue other interests shortly before the band gained major attention with the release of “Eternal Blue.”
