Warbringer formed in Southern California in 2004, bringing the speed, precision, and political urgency of classic thrash metal into a new generation. Vocalist John Kevill and guitarist Adam Carroll became the longest-running creative anchors of a band whose music combines rapid riffing, aggressive rhythm changes, and lyrics focused on war, authoritarianism, technology, and the destructive patterns of human history.
The group developed through the Born of the Ruins demo in 2005 and the One by One, the Wicked Fall demo EP in 2006. Those recordings helped Warbringer secure a deal with Century Media Records and led to the 2008 debut album War Without End. “Total War,” “Combat Shock,” “Systematic Genocide,” and “At the Crack of Doom” established the band as one of the leading acts in the modern thrash revival.
Waking into Nightmares followed in 2009 with production by Exodus guitarist Gary Holt. The album featured drummer Nic Ritter and sharpened the band’s combination of speed, technical playing, and darker atmosphere through “Jackal,” “Living in a Whirlwind,” “Severed Reality,” and “Forgotten Dead.” Carlos Cruz joined for Worlds Torn Asunder in 2011, beginning a long association that would make his drumming central to Warbringer’s later sound.
The 2011 album expanded the band’s writing through “Living Weapon,” “Shattered Like Glass,” “Future Ages Gone,” and the instrumental “Behind the Veils of Night.” IV: Empires Collapse arrived in 2013 with a wider mix of thrash, traditional heavy metal, punk energy, and progressive structure, heard in “Horizon,” “Hunter-Seeker,” “Black Sun, Black Moon,” and “The Turning of the Gears.”
After lineup changes and a period of uncertainty, Warbringer returned with Woe to the Vanquished in 2017. The album reunited Kevill with Carroll and introduced a revitalized lineup featuring Cruz, guitarist Chase Becker, and bassist Jessie Sanchez. “Silhouettes,” “Remain Violent,” “Descending Blade,” and the eleven-minute “When the Guns Fell Silent” balanced direct thrash attack with increasingly ambitious arrangements.
Weapons of Tomorrow followed in 2020 with “Firepower Kills,” “The Black Hand Reaches Out,” “Power Unsurpassed,” “Defiance of Fate,” and “Glorious End.” The record connected military history and political violence with concerns about technological control and the future consequences of present-day power.
Warbringer released Wrath and Ruin in 2025 through Napalm Records. Its eight studio tracks included “The Sword and the Cross,” “A Better World,” “Neuromancer,” “The Jackhammer,” and “Through a Glass, Darkly.” A deluxe edition added 15 live performances recorded during the band’s 2023 European tour, documenting material from every phase of the catalog.
The lineup of Kevill, Carroll, Cruz, Becker, and bassist Chase Bryant continued touring after the album’s release. Wrath and Ruin remains the band’s latest studio record, extending a catalog that now includes seven full-length albums, early demos, expanded editions, tribute covers, alternate mixes, singles, and live recordings.
