Legendary country music star Dolly Parton has said no to her nomination into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. Her reasoning is quite simple. She doesn’t believe she deserves to be put into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame because she is simply not a rock ‘n’ roll artist. It’s a pretty courageous statement from someone who has been so inspirational to so many people in the country music business. Furthermore, Dolly Parton says that she doesn’t want to have votes spilt up because of her nomination and become the reason why somebody more deserving is not put in. Her direct quote is “I don’t feel that I have earned that right.” However, Dolly Parton does say that she is hopeful that maybe sometime in the future she will earn the right to be nominated for the Rock & roll Hall of Fame and intends to put out a rock ‘n’ roll album in the near future.
Dolly Parton is not the first country music artist to be nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. There have been many country artists nominated over the years to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. Some of them are legends like Johnny Cash and Chet Atkins. Although many argued that Johnny Cash did deserve to be in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame because he did cross over into rock ‘n’ roll many times. He also had a rock ‘n’ roll attitude. Many rock artists were inspired by the music of Johnny Cash. Just listen to Social Distortion’s version of “Ring of Fire.” The same goes for Dolly Parton as many artists in the rock ‘n’ roll business have been inspired by Dolly Parton and recorded her songs in rock ‘n’ roll fashion. Yet, there has always been debate whether or not country music artists belong in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. That debate also holds true for rap artists and hip-hop artists.
Many fans were upset that Dolly Parton was nominated to be inducted into Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. They were also quite upset that Eminem was nominated to be inducted Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. Much of that anger comes not just from the decision to nominate artists like Dolly Parton and Eminem but rather from the exclusion of some great rock ‘n’ roll artists that have not been inducted yet. For many years fans went crazy that bands like Yes, Rush, The Moody Blues and so many more were ignored. There are still so many great rock ‘n’ roll bands that have not been inducted. Groups like Foghat, King Crimson Grand Funk Railroad, Emerson Lake & Palmer and so many others who played significant roles in rock and roll history have been ignored while man rap artists continued to be inducted. We have gotten so many emails here at that site by people so angry that their favorite rock and roll bands have not been inducted.
Dolly Parton was probably feeling the heat and anger of so many rock ‘n roll fans. This is a fun-loving kind woman who probably did just not want to deal with that anger brought against her. Social media can be brutal as we really know well here at the site. It’s actually a pretty smart move by Dolly Parton as fans will celebrate her decision to respect rock ‘n’ roll music and by giving up any votes she would’ve gotten to somebody who is more of a rock ‘n roll artist. That doesn’t take anything away from her as she is one of the most significant musical artists of the 20th century. Way to go Dolly!
