Our fifth release in our Mike Hill series of Unreleased Classic Rock Photos features the band, Private Lightning. This was a band that was extremely popular in Boston and other areas of the East Coast in the late 1970s. While the group never became a household name on a national basis, they were one of those great bands that created a large loyal following on the East Coast of the United States. Their popularity in the Boston rock club music circuit eventually landed the band a major label record deal with A&M Records.
The group released their major label debut in 1980 entitled Private Lightning. The album featured Adam Sherman on vocals, Paul Van Ness on guitar, Patty Van Ness on violin, Steve Keith on bass and Scott Woodman on drums. Their debut album was produced by Robin Geoffrey Cable with Jon Walls also engineering. We included a track from the record below. This was the sound of the late 1970s on the East Coast of the United States.
If you like what you hear or were a fan of the band you can find their debut album still being sold on Amazon. Just click on the album cover.
Below are unreleased photographs of Private Lightning taken by Mike Hill. We are sure these will bring back special memories for those rock and roll fans who saw this legendary group many times on the rock club circuit of the 1970s. These photos were taken during the summer of 1980 at a small club in Weymouth, Ma and feature band members Paul Van Ness, Adam Sherman and Patty Van Ness.
