Our Top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list looks at a Grammy Award winning band who recently changed their name to just The Chicks. The group The Chicks first arrived on the scene as the Dixie Chicks in 1990 with their first album entitled Thank Heavens for Dale Evans. Natalie Maines had not yet joined the band at the time of the group’s debut album with original singer Robin Lynn Macy, bassist Laura Lynch and sisters Martie and Emily Erwin. The band released their second album in 1992 with the same lineup. The group’s third album just featured the Erwin sisters and was also the last to feature Laura Lynch. The fortunes of the Dixie Chick would change dramatically with the addition of Natalie Maines as the groups new lead singer as they prepared to record their fourth album.

With Natalie Maines on board, the Dixie Chicks would release their fourth studio album in 1998 entitled Wide Open Spaces. The band would become a household name with the release of that album as it was an astonishing success on the pop and country charts. From that point on, the Dixies Chicks would become one of the most successful groups in the music business winning multiple Grammy Awards and hitting number one on the country music charts multiple times while also scoring top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. This was a fun one to put together.

# 10 – There’s Your Trouble

We open up our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list with the marvellous song entitled “There’s Your Trouble.” This is a very special song in the band’s history because of a couple of firsts. It was the group’s first number one single as it hit number one of both the Billboard Hot Country Songs Charts and US Billboard Country Airplay Charts. “There’s Your Trouble, would also become the Dixie Chicks first Gold selling single”

The song was composed by Mark Selby and Tia Sillers.

# 9 – Gaslighter

Continuing with our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list we take a big leap in time to take a listen to the great song entitled “Gaslighter.” The song served as the title track to their latest album entitled Gaslighter. The album was released in 2020. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs Charts peaking at number twenty. The song also was a hit in the US Billboard Country Airplay Charts reaching number thirty six.  The song was a hit on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles peaking at number seven. On the Gaslighter album the Dixie Chicks also changed their name to just The Chicks.  The song was composed by Natalie Maines, Emily Robison, Martie Maguire and Jack Antonoff

# 8 – Without You

In the number eight spot on our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list we present the tender ballad entitled . We could listen to Natalie and the girls sing this one all day long. It’s so stunning. The song was released on the album entitled Fly. The album was released in 1999. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs Charts peaking at number one. The song also was a hit in the US Billboard Country Airplay Charts reaching number one. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 peaking at number thirty one.  The song also was a hit on the Canadian Country Music Charts rising all the way to number eight. The song was composed by  Eric Silver and Natalie Maines.

# 7 – Long Time Gone

In the number seven position on our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs is one of our favorite Dixie Chicks songs of all time song entitled “Long Time Gone.” The song was released on the album entitled Home. The album was released in 2002. It was the first single released from the album. This is such an uplifting songs with incredible playing and vocals. How could you not love the Dixie Chicks after hearing a song like this? The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs Charts peaking at number two. The song also was a hit in the US Billboard Country Airplay Charts reaching number two. The song was a top 10 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 peaking at number seven. The song was composed by Darrell Scott.

# 6 – Cowboy Take Me Away

Landing in the number six spot on our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list, we present the song “Cowboy Take Me Away.” Martie Seidel’s fiddle playing on this one is astonishing. Natalie Maines as always just tears it apart on the vocals and Emily Robison’s wraps her brilliant banjo playing around the song taking it to a whole new level of brilliance.

# 5 -Travelin’ Soldier

There are some songs that are just so well written you shake your head and wonder how did they come up with something so brilliant. Then when you’re a songwriter that knows you have written something so special, all your hoping for is to find the right voice to treat the song right. Bruce Robison found the perfect voice in Natalie Maines to deliver the tale of the song so tenderly with such genuine spirit that everyone who heard it fell instantly in love with the song.

“Travelin’ Soldier” song was released on the album entitled Home. The album was released in 2002. It was the third single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs Charts peaking at number one. The song also was a hit in the US Billboard Country Airplay Charts reaching number one. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 peaking at number twenty two. This was easily one of the best recordings the Dixie Chicks ever released. The live version below is mesmerising.

# 4 – Wide Open Spaces

In the number four spot on our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list we are so happy to present the amazing song “Wide Open Spaces.” This is such an outstanding song. A song about growing up, failing and getting back up and just taking it all in and moving on. Natalie Maines delivers an amazing vocals that is just so genuine. Marti and Emily Strayer light it up like they always do. The lyrics and melody by songwriter Susan Gibbons captures the trials and tribulations of growing up and watching you kids grow up. It sees it from both angles. We never get tired of listening to this one.

# 3 – Landslide

So many Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks fans always choose the song “Landslide,” as their favorite Fleetwood Mac song. So it’s pretty daring to attempt to do a cover version of a song that is already so deeply loved in society. Nonetheless, the Dixie Chicks covered the song and hit a home run with it. They didn’t dare change the melody or the arrangement all that much. What they did do with it was bring their excellent musical skills and passionate vocals that have always been one of the hallmarks of the great Dixie Chicks band.

The song was a top 10 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 peaking at number seven making it the second straight top 10 hit from the album. # 2 – Ready to Run

Just of the head spot on our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list we highly embrace the raging full throttle song entitled “Ready to Run.” I can’t help but thinking about Julia Roberts in the motion picture Runaway Bride everytime I hear this song. We love the songs opening celtic riff.The video is highly enjoyable to watch as the Dixie Chicks rock it hard in the acting performance. Everyone looked like they had a lot of fun making the video.

# 1 – Not Ready to Make Nice

At the number one spot on our top 10 Dixie Chicks songs list we present the song entitled “Not Ready to Make Nice.” This was a songs released by the Dixie Chicks in which they fought back against the grief and death threats they received from people who didn’t like what Natalie Maines said about President George W Bush.  The song would wind up being the Dixie Chicks highest charting song of their career on the US Billboard Hot 100 where it peaked at number four.

“Not Ready to Make Nice,” was released on the album entitled Taking the Long Way. The album was released in 2005. It was the second single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs Charts peaking at number thirty six.  The song “Not Ready to Make Nice,” also was a hit in the US Billboard Country Airplay Charts reaching number thirty six. “Not Ready to Make Nice,” also was a hit on the Canadian  Music Charts rising all the way to number three. It’s interesting that this was a song that did much better on the pop charts in both the United States and Canada than it did in the country charts by far. “Not Ready to Make Nice,” was composed by Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, Emily Robison, and Dan Wilson.
