These guys are great…they still are …but they should have been far bigger than they ever were and had a longer run than they did. Although, there was a time in the 1980s when everyone knew who they were, or at least saw their videos and heard their songs on a daily basis for a couple of years. Our Top 10 Hooters songs list looks back at some of the fabulous music that the Hooters released in their heyday. Sometimes when we do these lists it feels feels like work, other times when we write these articles like this one, we spend way much to time writing it because we cant stop listening all the way through to all these great songs.

The Hooters burst onto the music scene in 1985 with their major label debut album on Columbia Records entitled Nervous Night. It was actually the band’s second album, but their first record which was an independent release went unnoticed. However, their Columbia debut was highly noticed as it spawned two big hits and earned the group multiple nominations for Best New Band of the Year. In 1985, the band was also chosen to open up Live Aid in the United States which was an incredible honor and helped them earn recognition on a world wide basis. It was a home grown Philadelphia band opening the U.S. portion of the show in their home city of Philadelphia. How perfect was that?

The Hooters popularity on the charts and their songs placements on MTV did not last for more than a couple of years. The band’s peak popularity had occurred in 1985 and 1986 and began to fade commercially on their next two albums called One Way Home in 1987 and Zig Zag in 1989. It would be four more years until the group released a new album in 1993 entitled Out Of Body. It would be another fourteen years until the Hooters released another studio album in 2007 titled Time Stand Still. Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian were involved in many other projects over the years. In 2010, the group released their latest record of new recordings entitled Five by Five: EP. Over the years, the band has released multiple greatest hits packages and three live albums.

The Hooters were a band fueled by the songwriting talents of Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian. Besides the music they wrote for their band The Hooters’ two talented songwriters and musicians often worked with other artists writing and co- writing some of the biggest pops songs of the 1980s and 1990s. Rob Hyman co wrote with Cyndi Lauper her number one single “Time After Time,” as well as working with many other artists over the years. Eric Bazilian composed the number one single “One Of Us,” for Joan Osborne. A song that helped launch Osborne’s career. Between the music they released with the Hooters and the songs they composed and produced with so many other artists, Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian have contributed greatly to Classic Rock History. # 10 – Where Do The Children Go

We open up our top 10 songs from The Hooters list with the great song “Where Do The Children Go.” The song was released on their 1985 major label debut album Nervous Night. The song was released as the fourth single from the album. It was impressive that the song still broke the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 as the fourth single released from the album. A great song to open up this Hooters songs list.

# 9 -Twenty Five Hours a Day

I love this one, its so much fun! How could one not love this song and video. It’s high energy music fueled with a Celtic party vibe that just lifts your spirits. The violin playing and female backing vocals by Mindy Jostyn are superb. The song “Twenty Five Hours A Day,” was released on the album Out Of Body in 1993.

# 8 – Karla with A K

Continuing with our top 10 Hooters songs list we turn to a fan favorite entitled “Karla with A K.” The song was issued on the album One Way Home. The record was released in 1987. “Karla with A K.” served as the third single release from the album. Although it did not chart well, it did break the top 100 in the United Kingdom. Nonetheless, this is one of our favorite Hooters songs as well as it it is for so many other Hooters fans.

# 7 – Time Stand Still

The single “Time Sands Still,” was released on the last full length Hooters studio album also called Time Stand Still. The songs was released as the only single form the album. The song did not charts. Time Stand Still was written by Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian. It had been fourteen years since The Hooters had released any new songs. It was good t have them backs with this great songs an album that gave rebirth to that unique Hooters sound.

# 6 – Day by Day

The Hooters song “Day By Day,” was released on their hit album Nervous Night. The song was released as the third single from the record. “Day By Day,” is the band’s only top 20 hit in the Billboard Hit 100. The song peaked at number 198 on the Hot 100 making it the band’s higest charting song in their catalog. The song was written by Rob Hyman, Eric Bazilian and Rick Chertoff. Like songs such as “And They Dance,” the song is fueled by an energy that one can simply not get enough off.

# 5 – 500 Miles

As we enter the second half of our top 10 songs from the Hooters list, we present the great song “500 Miles.” The song was released on the Hooters 1989 album Zig Zag. “500 Miles,” is the only song on this Hooters songs list that was not written by the Hooters. Although, they did add additional lyrics. “500 Miles,” is an old American folk songs written by Heady West. The Hooters cover of this one is simply electric.

# 4 – Satellite

At the number four spot on our Hooters songs list we present the fabulous cut “Satellite,” which should not to be confused with the Dave Matthews Band song. The Hooters song “Satellite,” was released on the album One Way Home. The song was issued as the second single from the record. The great video for the song is not to be missed as it focuses on the big time issues of the 1980s in the use of evangelism to raise money on television and the scandals that arose from it.

# 3 – Johnny B

The song “Johnny B,” was released on the album One Way Home in 1987. Once again that powerful emotional Hooters sound is driven by Celtic and European overtones produced by brilliant acoustic guitars and keyboards that make the band sound like they came from Europe rather than Philadelphia. Perhaps its Eric Bazilian’s South European Armenian heritage that permeates his songwriting

# 2 – All You Zombies

As we close in on the number one spot on our top 10 Hooters songs list we present the Hooters first hit single. The song “All You Zombies,” was originally released on the band’s first album Amore in 1983. However, the song was remixed and new parts added to it and then released on their major label debut Nervous Night in 1985. While it wasn’t a huge hit in the U.S. it still helped the band catch the ear of many music fans.

# 1 – And We Danced

At the number one spot on our top 10 Hooters songs list, we turn to the grand song “And We Danced.” This one was easy to choose. It’s such a high energy song defined by a powerful chorus that you cant forget. “And We Danced,” is a dynamic uplifting song that stands as one of the great rock and roll classics of the 1980s. The song was released on the bands’ album Nervous Night. The song “And We Danced,” was released as the second single from the album. The song peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.
