Volbeat is one of the most successful and distinctive rock bands to come out of Denmark, blending hard rock, heavy metal, punk, and rockabilly into a sound entirely their own. The band was formed in Copenhagen in 2001 by vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen, who had just disbanded his death metal group Dominus. Wanting to create something with a broader melodic appeal, Poulsen began writing songs that merged classic rock influences like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash with the ferocity of metal acts such as Metallica and Slayer.
