It’s Christmas morning, 2024, and I really don’t feel like working. All I want to do is eat cookies, drink eggnog, and open presents. I want to relax this morning. I want to enjoy Christmas morning with my family and not have to work. However, as a publication that takes a lot of pride in publishing every single day, like a newspaper, I made sure to get up a little earlier this morning to get this one ready. It’s a little more sparse than our normal publications, but I think since it’s Christmas Morning, that’s okay. Later on today, I’ll have some other writers do some publishing for me that dont celebrate Christmas. However, for all of those of you out there who do celebrate Christmas and just happened to be looking at your phones, computers or iPads this morning and want to entertain yourself with some Christmas songs, I put together a fun list of some of my favorite Christmas songs that I like to turn up really loud.

# 10 – Christmas – The Who

Yes, I know most people don’t think of this as a traditional Christmas song, not even a traditional Christmas rock and roll song. I Don’t Care! This is just perfect for this list! As anyone who has ever seen the movie knows the music in that film is completely different from the Who versions on the original album. Some don’t like it, but I’ve always kind of enjoyed the film version of the Who’s Tommy album. Below are both versions.

# 9 – Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight) – The Ramones

As soon as the actress in the video mentions her parents living in Mineola, I knew this was on for me. It reminds me of riding on the Long Island Railroad all the time with the conductor saying “Mineola Next!”  Most people aren’t going to get that… I don’t care.

# 8  – Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – The Partridge Family

If you think you’re too cool for The Partridge Family then this website is not for you. Go watch The Brady Bunch, I dont care!

# 7 – ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday – Wizzard

This was pretty big in the United Kingdom in 1973 but not really in the United States. I’m pretty sure it still isn’t. Nonetheless,  this is a cool one to creep out some young kiddies cuz these guys definitely do look freaky. But it’s so cool and  it’s early 70s which makes it even cooler

# 6 – Oh Come All Ye Faithful – Twisted Sister

I remember seeing Twisted Sister as a bar band on Long Island in the mid 70s. They weren’t always the friendliest band to audience members, especially if you weren’t screaming your lungs out with a beer raised over your head. Nonetheless, they did make great videos and definitely rock hard and loud.

# 5 – Christmas Is The Time To Say “I Love You” – Billy Squire

I don’t know about you, but when I listen to the song, it sounds like everybody has had a few already. And … they seem to keep it going all the way through. That’s probably why I like this one so much. Whatever happened to Billy? He released some really great songs in the early 1980s.

# 4 – Christmas Wrapping – The Waitresses

This is always been one of my favorite Christmas songs. I was a very big fan of the Waitresses. I don’t know why some people complain about this group, they don’t just seem to get it. This is one of those groups that was way ahead of their time. Patty Donahue inspired a lot of female singers. I mean, just take a listen to Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, and then listen to The Waitresses. You’ll hear where it all came from. Unlike some of the songs on this list that are indeed deep tracks this one is definitely a classic.

# 3 – Christmas Vacation – Mavis Staple

The theme song to my second favorite Christmas movie of all the time. How could you not like this movie? I wonder how many people know that this is Mavis Staples of the Staples Singers? All I know, is I still want to join the Jelly of the Month Club.

# 2 – Santa Clause Is Coming To Town – Alice Cooper

There are so many different versions of this Christmas classic including many variations on the standard rock version that was initially done by The Ronettes, The Jackson 5, and then of course Bruce Springsteen’s big time hit with his “snowing along the boardwalk” version which I love. Yet one of the most original sounding versions belongs to Mr. Alice Cooper and I was just kind of more in the mood to hear this one this morning then the others.

# 1 – The Season’s Upon Us – Dropkick Murphys

As a celebration of my half-Irish heritage, this band, this song, and this video make me really crazy proud. It reminds me of growing up in the Bronx in the 60s and 7os surrounded by Irish, even though these guys are from Boston. Don’t tell them I’m from the Bronx, they don’t like us, we won too many World Series.
