Adele Laurie Blue Adkins (born May 5, 1988), known professionally as Adele, is an English singer-songwriter. In 2006, Adele was given a recording contract by XL Recordings after a friend posted her demo on Myspace the same year, and she graduated from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology.

Her debut album, “19,” was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success. It is certified four times platinum in the U.K. and double platinum in the U.S., spawning the hit singles “Chasing Pavements” and “Make You Feel My Love.” Following her graduation from university in 2011, she became a mother and released her second studio album, “21.” The record received universal acclaim from critics and earned her five Grammy Awards, tying the then-record for most wins by a female artist in one night, including Album of the Year; with “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone like You,” she became the first woman to win Song of the Year twice.

Following an international tour, Adele released her third studio album, “25,” which became her second number-one album in the U.K. and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. The lead single, “Hello,” became the first song in digital history to sell over one million downloads in its first week of release. Adele isn’t one to show off tattoos, but she does have one with the initials’ J.B.’ Most of her fans assume this is for her son, but it probably means more than that. Allegedly, the tattoo was given by boyfriend Simon Konecki. It’s believed that Adele’s tattoo is the initial of his surname.
