Our Top 10 songs from The Psychedelic Furs article presents 10 brilliant songs from a great British Band founded in 1977 by Richard and Tim Butler. The Psychedelic Furs were formed in the Butlers’ hometown of London, England. They broke into the music scene in 1980 with their debut album, The Psychedelic Furs, fueled by a distinctive sound that blended punk and new wave. However, the band’s sound was unique, with Richard Butler’s vocals and the dark, airy strings that often cast their shadows over the band’s brilliant compositions. This article presents ten of their most significant recordings.

# 10 – Sister Europe

We open up our top 10 Psychedelic Furs songs list with one of the band’s first single releases, entitled “Sister Europe.” The song was released on the album entitled Psychedelic Furs. It was the second single released from the album. The album was released in 1980. This is a slow, dark song that is simply captivating and will leave you in a trance.

# 9 – The Boy That Invented Rock & Roll

Continuing with our top 10 Psychedelic Furs songs list, we take a listen to the great song entitled “The Boy That Invented Rock & Roll.” This is the first song the Psychedelic Furs have released in thirty years. The song was released on the album entitled Made of Rain. The album was released in 2020. This was a thrill for Psychedelic Furs fans to celebrate a new Psychedelic Furs album after the band had not released any new material for thirty years. The band sounds amazing on the entire album. “The Boy That Invented Rock & Roll” was the album’s opening track. The group also released a single from the album entitled “Don’t Believe,” which is also outstanding.

# 8 – Dumb Waiters

“Dumb Waiters” is probably the most punk-sounding of the band’s hits, compared with their more popular new-wave sound. The synths produce a great horn-style line on this one, with some very interesting guitar work scattered throughout. Just a very cool song. The song was released on the album entitled Talk Talk Talk. The album was released in 1981. It was the second single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Dance Charts, peaking at number twenty-seven. In the United Kingdom, the song hit number fifty-nine.

# 7 – Here Come Cowboys

In the number seven position on our top 10 Psychedelic Furs songs list is the song “Here Come Cowboys.” The song was released on the album entitled Mirror Moves. The album was released in 1984. It was the third single released from the album. The song did not reach any of the standard music charts’ top 100 lists. Nonetheless, it’s just one of those great Psychedelic Furs songs with great chord changes, melody, lyrics, and a very cool guitar solo.

# 6 – Heartbreak Beat

Landing in the number six spot on our top 10 Psychedelic Furs songs list, we present the song “Heartbreak Beat.” The song was released on the album entitled Midnight to Midnight. The album was released in 1987. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number twenty six. It was actually the band’s highest charting single on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song was also a hit on the US Billboard Dance Charts, reaching as high as number fourteen. In the United Kingdom, the song hit number seventy-nine.

# 5 – Until She Comes

At the halfway point on our top 10 Psychedelic Furs songs list is the song entitled “Until She Comes.” This is medium paced rock ballad with a great groove and melody. The song was issued on the album entitled World Outside. The album was released in 1991. It was the first single released from the album. The song was the third number-one single on the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The song did not chart anywhere else.

# 4 – Heaven

This one is just daunting. The video of the band performing in the rain, combined with the lighting and special effects, worked perfectly for this mesmerizing song called “Heaven.”  The song was released on the Mirror Moves album in 1984. The song would become a top 40 hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at number twenty-nine.

# 3 – All That Money Wants

All That Money Wants” was released on the Psychedelic Furs’ greatest hits compilation entitled All of This and Nothing. The album was released in 1988. This greatest-hits compilation was released only two years after the band had their huge success with the single “Pretty in Pink” in 1986, so the Psychedelic Furs were still a very hot band at the time. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a huge hit on the US Billboard Alternative Charts, reaching the number one spot.

# 2 – Pretty In Pink

The next two songs on this Psychedelic Furs songs list are among the most famous released during the 1980s. They are pretty much interchangeable in the first and second positions on this list. Up first is the classic song “Pretty In Pink.” The song was released on the album entitled Talk Talk Talk in 1981. The song was re-recorded for the 1986 film Pretty in Pink, where it became a much bigger hit than it had been the first time it was released in 1981. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1986, peaking at number forty-one.  It was a top 20 hit in the United Kingdom, reaching number 18.

# 1 – Love My Way

We close out our top 10 Psychedelic Furs songs list with this classic song, produced by Todd Rundgren, entitled “Love My Way.” This is simply one of the most stunning songs released during the early 1980s new wave period. No one sounded like this. The vocals are so original. Todd Rundgren lays a spooky marimba rhythm under the vocals and places some very creepy tremolo string lines in and out of the verses and chorus, adding so much mystery to the song. “Love My Way” was released on the album entitled Forever Now. The album was released in 1982. It was the first single released from the album. The song was a hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number forty-four. The song was also a hit on the US Billboard Dance Charts, reaching as high as number 40. In the United Kingdom, the song hit number forty-two.
