Our Top 10 Sister Sledge songs list looks back at the work of a female groups who had great success in the late 1970s disco scene. The group was formed in the early 1979s when the four Sledge sisters were still in their teens and younger. By the time Sister Sledge released their first album in 1975, all four Sledge sisters on the recording including Kathy Sledge, Debbie Sledge, Joni Sledge and Kim Sledge were all still teenagers. Kathy Sledge was the youngest at 15 years old while Debbie Sledge was the oldest in the group at nineteen years old. The group’s first two albums did not sell that well on the charts. Nonetheless, all of that changed with the release of the album We Are Family in 1979. Atco Records brought in the brilliant talents of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards from Chic to write and produce the songs for the We Are Family Album. The results were stunning!

Sister Sledge’s We Are Family album spawned two number one singles in the songs “He’s the Greatest Dancer” and “We Are Family.” Both songs hit number one on the US Billboard R&B Charts in 1979. Additionally, both songs broke into the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100. These songs were huge. “We Are Family,” would become a nightclub and party standard for the next forty years cementing the legacy of Sister Sledge in popular music history.
