The Black Crowes may just be one of the greatest classic rock-style bands formed in the 1990s that brought a southern Rolling Stones-type of sound into rock music at a time when hair metal was dominating, and grunge was soon to follow. Over their career, they have released ten studio albums and undergone numerous lineup changes. The Black Crowes have experienced several hiatuses, the longest from 2015 to 2019, before reuniting for tour dates. Their music has achieved significant commercial success and critical acclaim, with multiple albums certified gold and platinum.
Chris Robinson
Chris Robinson is the lead vocalist and a founding member of The Black Crowes. Joining the band at its inception in 1984, Chris has been a constant presence. He played a crucial role on all the band’s albums, from the debut Shake Your Money Maker to the latest A Pound of Feathers, released in 2026. His distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence have been pivotal to the band’s identity. Outside The Black Crowes, Chris Robinson has pursued a solo career and formed Chris Robinson Brotherhood, further exploring his musical interests in rock and psychedelic music.
Rich Robinson
Rich Robinson, Chris Robinson’s brother, is the guitarist and another founding member of the band. He has been with the band since its beginning and has written and co-written many of the band’s biggest hits. Rich’s guitar work is featured prominently on all of the band’s albums. Beyond The Black Crowes, Rich has released several solo albums and collaborated with other musicians, bringing his signature guitar style to projects across rock and blues.
Steve Gorman
Steve Gorman was the drummer for The Black Crowes, joining shortly after its formation and playing on every studio album through Lions in 2001. He left the band late in 2001, returned when the band reunited in 2005, and remained through the band’s final pre-reunion period. Gorman’s powerful drumming was fundamental to the band’s sound. Outside of The Black Crowes, he has worked with several other bands and musicians and is also known for his sports talk radio work.
Jeff Cease
Jeff Cease was the lead guitarist of The Black Crowes from their early days until 1991. He played on the band’s debut album Shake Your Money Maker but left shortly after due to musical differences. After his departure from The Black Crowes, Cease continued his career with other musical endeavors, though none as high-profile as his tenure with The Black Crowes.
Johnny Colt
Johnny Colt joined The Black Crowes as bassist in 1989 and remained with the band until 1997. He appeared on their early albums including Shake Your Money Maker and The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. After leaving the band, Colt played with several other groups, including Lynyrd Skynyrd and Train.
Marc Ford
Marc Ford joined The Black Crowes as a lead guitarist in 1991, replacing Jeff Cease. He played on some of the band’s most critically acclaimed albums, including The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion and Amorica. Ford left the band in 1997, returned for the 2005 reunion, and departed again in 2006. Outside of The Black Crowes, Ford has a successful solo career and has been involved in various music projects focusing on rock and blues.

Sven Pipien
Sven Pipien joined The Black Crowes as the bassist in 1997, taking over from Johnny Colt. He was part of the band until 2000, rejoined in 2005, and stayed through various lineup changes until 2015. Pipien returned again in 2021 and remained with the touring lineup through 2025. His work is featured on later releases including By Your Side, Live at the Greek, Warpaint, Before the Frost…Until the Freeze, and Happiness Bastards. Outside of The Black Crowes, Pipien has been involved in various music projects but has remained relatively low-profile compared to some of his bandmates.
Erik Deutsch
Erik Deutsch joined The Black Crowes as a session and touring keyboardist and backing vocalist in 2022. His role supports live performances and ongoing tours, adding musical layers through his keyboard skills and vocal support. Deutsch has also contributed to the band’s later studio work. Outside The Black Crowes, Erik Deutsch has an extensive career in music, working with a variety of artists across different genres and showcasing his versatility as a musician.
Nico Bereciartua
Nico Bereciartua joined The Black Crowes as a session and touring guitarist in 2023 and has remained part of the touring lineup.
Cully Symington
Cully Symington joined The Black Crowes as a drummer and percussionist for touring purposes in 2023. He remained part of the touring lineup and also contributed drums to A Pound of Feathers.
Isaiah Mitchell
Isaiah Mitchell served as a session and touring guitarist for The Black Crowes from 2019 to 2023.
Joel Robinow
Joel Robinow was involved with The Black Crowes as a session and touring keyboardist and backing vocalist from 2019 to 2022.
Brian Griffin
Brian Griffin served as a session and touring drummer for The Black Crowes from 2021 to 2023. His contributions during live performances helped maintain the high energy and powerful dynamics that The Black Crowes’ shows are known for. Griffin also played drums on Happiness Bastards, which was released in 2024. His drumming played a key role in the rhythm section during a transitional time for the band.
Eddie Harsch (Edward Hawrysch)
Eddie Harsch was the keyboardist for The Black Crowes from 1992 until 2002, and again from 2005 to 2006. He played on releases from The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, as well as later recordings issued on The Lost Crowes. Harsch passed away in 2016.
Audley Freed
Audley Freed joined The Black Crowes as a touring guitarist in 1998 and remained with the band through 2001. He contributed to Live at the Greek (2000), Lions (2001), and Live (2002). Freed has also worked with numerous other artists in various musical projects.
Greg Rzab
Greg Rzab was the bassist for a brief period in 2000 during The Black Crowes’ tour with Jimmy Page. Recordings featuring Rzab from the Jones Beach shows were later included on expanded versions of Live at the Greek.
Andy Hess
Andy Hess was the bassist for The Black Crowes from 2001 to 2002. He is featured on the album Live (2002). Hess is also known for his work with Gov’t Mule.
Bill Dobrow
Bill Dobrow was a touring drummer for The Black Crowes in 2005. He did not record on any studio albums but played on the band’s live performances during that time.
Rob Clores
Rob Clores played keyboards for The Black Crowes from 2006 to 2007, contributing to the band’s live performances during this period.
Paul Stacey
Paul Stacey was a touring guitarist for The Black Crowes in 2006 and 2007. He is also known for his work as a producer and session musician.
Adam MacDougall
Adam MacDougall was the keyboardist for The Black Crowes from 2007 to 2015. He played on Warpaint (2008), Before the Frost…Until the Freeze (2009), Croweology (2010), and Wiser for the Time (2013). MacDougall brought a distinct style to the band’s sound during his tenure.
Luther Dickinson
Luther Dickinson played guitar, mandolin, and harmonica for The Black Crowes from 2007 to 2011. Known for his work with the North Mississippi Allstars, Dickinson added a distinctive Southern rock and blues flavor to The Black Crowes.
Jackie Greene
Jackie Greene was a guitarist and backing vocalist for The Black Crowes from 2012 to 2015. Although he did not record on any studio albums, he participated in the band’s live performances and tours.
Raj Kumar Ojha
Raj Kumar Ojha was a touring drummer for The Black Crowes from 2019 to 2021. He contributed to the band’s reunion lineup during that period.
Tim Lefebvre
Tim Lefebvre played bass for The Black Crowes from 2019 to 2021 as part of the band’s reunion touring lineup. Lefebvre is known for his versatility across genres and projects. He is one of the most in-demand bass players in the business.

Mark “Muddy” Dutton
Mark “Muddy” Dutton joined The Black Crowes’ touring lineup on bass in 2026, replacing Sven Pipien for the band’s 2026 tours. Dutton had previously worked with Chris Robinson as a member of the Chris Robinson Brotherhood.
