Bush was formed in London in 1992 by Gavin Rossdale and Nigel Pulsford. The band rose to fame during the mid-1990s, becoming one of the era’s most successful alternative rock bands with the release of its debut album, Sixteen Stone, in 1994. The album produced major hits including “Everything Zen,” “Comedown,” “Glycerine,” “Machinehead,” and “Little Things.”

Bush’s original recording lineup consisted of Rossdale on vocals and rhythm guitar, Pulsford on lead guitar, Dave Parsons on bass, and Robin Goodridge on drums. The band released four studio albums before breaking up in 2002. Bush reunited in 2010 with Rossdale and Goodridge joined by guitarist Chris Traynor and bassist Corey Britz. Goodridge left the band in 2019 and was replaced by drummer Nik Hughes.

As of 2026, Bush has released ten studio albums. The band’s most recent album, I Beat Loneliness, was released on July 18, 2025, following The Art of Survival in 2022. Bush has received one Grammy Award nomination, for “Swallowed” in the Best Hard Rock Performance category at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards. The current lineup consists of Gavin Rossdale, Chris Traynor, Corey Britz, and Nik Hughes.

Gavin Rossdale

Gavin Rossdale is the founder, lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and principal songwriter of Bush. He formed the group with guitarist Nigel Pulsford in London in 1992 and has remained the central figure in every era of the band’s history.

Rossdale appeared on all ten Bush studio albums, beginning with Sixteen Stone in 1994 and continuing through I Beat Loneliness in 2025. His songwriting produced many of Bush’s best-known songs, including “Glycerine,” “Comedown,” “Machinehead,” “Swallowed,” “The Chemicals Between Us,” “The Sound of Winter,” and “More Than Machines.”

After Bush broke up in 2002, Rossdale formed Institute with Chris Traynor and released the album Distort Yourself in 2005. He later released the solo album WANDERlust in 2008 before reactivating Bush in 2010.

Rossdale remains Bush’s only member whose tenure extends from the original 1990s lineup through every subsequent version of the band.

Nigel Pulsford

Nigel Pulsford co-founded Bush with Gavin Rossdale and served as the band’s original lead guitarist. Pulsford’s guitar work was an essential part of the sound heard on Sixteen Stone, Razorblade Suitcase, The Science of Things, and Golden State.

His melodic lead playing and use of texture complemented Rossdale’s rhythm guitar and helped define the sound of Bush’s first decade. Pulsford remained with the band through the recording of Golden State and stepped away from touring in 2002 to devote more time to his family.

Chris Traynor took over guitar duties during the later part of the Golden State touring period. When Bush reunited in 2010, Pulsford chose not to return.

Dave Parsons

Dave Parsons was the bassist in Bush’s original recording lineup and played with the band from its formative years through the 2002 breakup. Before Bush, Parsons had played with the Partisans and Transvision Vamp.

Parsons appeared on the band’s first four studio albums: Sixteen Stone, Razorblade Suitcase, The Science of Things, and Golden State. His bass work formed the lower end of the rhythm section alongside drummer Robin Goodridge during Bush’s rise to international success.

Like Nigel Pulsford, Parsons did not return when Gavin Rossdale reactivated Bush in 2010. Corey Britz became the bassist in the reunited lineup.

Robin Goodridge

Robin Goodridge became the drummer in Bush’s early lineup and played on all four studio albums from the band’s original run: Sixteen Stone, Razorblade Suitcase, The Science of Things, and Golden State.

Goodridge’s powerful drumming was a major part of the band’s 1990s sound, providing the muscular rhythmic foundation beneath Rossdale and Pulsford’s layered guitars. When Bush reunited in 2010, Goodridge returned alongside Rossdale, Chris Traynor, and Corey Britz.

During his second period with Bush, Goodridge appeared on The Sea of Memories in 2011, Man on the Run in 2014, and Black and White Rainbows in 2017. He left the band in 2019 and was replaced by Nik Hughes.

Chris Traynor

Chris Traynor first became involved with Bush in 2002 after Nigel Pulsford stepped away during the Golden State touring period. Traynor had previously played with bands including Orange 9mm and Helmet.

After Bush went on hiatus, Traynor continued working with Gavin Rossdale in Institute. When Bush returned in 2010, Traynor became the band’s lead guitarist and has remained a member ever since.

Traynor has appeared on every Bush studio album of the reunion era, beginning with The Sea of Memories in 2011 and continuing through Man on the Run, Black and White Rainbows, The Kingdom, The Art of Survival, and I Beat Loneliness.

His long tenure has made him the band’s second-longest-serving current member behind Gavin Rossdale.

Corey Britz

Corey Britz joined Bush when the band reunited in 2010, taking over the bass position previously held by Dave Parsons. He made his Bush studio-album debut on The Sea of Memories in 2011.

Britz has remained the band’s bassist throughout the entire reunion era and has appeared on every Bush studio album from The Sea of Memories through I Beat Loneliness. In addition to bass, he has contributed backing vocals and other instrumentation to the band’s recordings and live performances.

Along with Rossdale and Traynor, Britz has provided much of the continuity that has defined Bush since its return in 2010.

Nik Hughes

Nik Hughes joined Bush in 2019 after the departure of longtime drummer Robin Goodridge. Hughes became part of the lineup with Gavin Rossdale, Chris Traynor, and Corey Britz and has remained the band’s drummer ever since.

Hughes appeared as a member of Bush on The Kingdom in 2020 and continued with the band on The Art of Survival in 2022 and I Beat Loneliness in 2025. His arrival marked the first permanent change in Bush’s reunited lineup after nearly a decade with Goodridge behind the drums.

As of 2026, Hughes continues to tour and record with Bush as part of the band’s current four-member lineup.
