Casting Crowns originated in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1999. Founded by youth pastor Mark Hall at First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, the band later relocated to the Atlanta area in Georgia and expanded its membership from performing in student worship settings to recording studio albums and touring extensively. The band is known for spiritual lyrics and modern worship music, appealing to both Christian audiences and broader listeners. Casting Crowns has released multiple albums with significant chart success and has earned Grammy and Dove Award recognition. Their notable albums include their self-titled debut, Casting Crowns (2003), which became one of the fastest-selling debut albums by a Christian artist, and Lifesong (2005), which further established their popularity.

As of August 31, 2026, Casting Crowns’ lineup consists of Mark Hall on lead vocals, Juan DeVevo on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Josh Mix on lead guitar and backing vocals, Melodee DeVevo on violin and backing vocals, Megan Garrett on keyboards, accordion, and backing vocals, Jack Williams on drums, and John Michael Hall on bass. The band’s most recent studio album remains Healer, released in 2022.

Mark Hall

Mark Hall is the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and founder of Casting Crowns. Since the band’s formation in 1999, Hall has remained the group’s central creative and spiritual voice. His work as a youth pastor has heavily influenced the themes and lyrics of the band’s music, with songs frequently focusing on faith, discipleship, Christian teaching, and the challenges of everyday life. Hall has appeared on every Casting Crowns album. Beyond his work with the band, he has also authored several books on Christianity, discipleship, and youth ministry.

Juan DeVevo

Juan DeVevo plays rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, and provides backing vocals for Casting Crowns. He has been with the band since its early Daytona Beach period in 1999, contributing to both studio recordings and live performances. DeVevo’s guitar work is integral to the band’s sound, ranging from rhythmic acoustic parts to electric guitar textures that support the group’s vocal melodies and worship-oriented arrangements.

Josh Mix

Josh Mix joined Casting Crowns during the transition away from original lead guitarist Hector Cervantes, becoming part of the band’s lineup around 2012 and appearing as an established member by 2013. As lead guitarist and backing vocalist, Mix brought a fresh dynamic to the band’s music and was part of the lineup by the time Thrive was released in 2014. His guitar work blends rock elements with melodic and atmospheric parts that complement the band’s contemporary Christian sound.

Melodee DeVevo

Melodee DeVevo plays violin and cello, contributes acoustic guitar, and provides backing vocals for Casting Crowns. She has been with the band since its beginning in 1999, adding a distinctive string element that is uncommon in many contemporary Christian rock bands. Her violin and vocal work has appeared throughout the band’s catalog and has become an important part of Casting Crowns’ recognizable sound.

Megan Garrett

Megan Garrett plays piano, keyboards, and accordion and provides backing vocals for Casting Crowns. She joined the band in 2001 after the group’s move to Georgia. Garrett has contributed to the atmospheric and orchestral layers of the band’s recordings and live performances, while her vocals and keyboard work have remained central to Casting Crowns’ arrangements for more than two decades.

Jack Williams

Jack Williams joined Casting Crowns as the band’s drummer in 2021 after Brian Scoggin stepped away from the group to focus more fully on local ministry. Williams had previously been connected to Mark Hall’s youth ministry and later became the band’s full-time drummer. His addition brought a new rhythmic presence to Casting Crowns’ touring lineup, and he remains the band’s drummer as of 2026.

John Michael Hall

John Michael Hall, the son of Mark Hall, became Casting Crowns’ bassist in 2021 after longtime bassist Chris Huffman stepped away from the band. Before moving into the bass position, John Michael had already spent years around the group’s touring operation. His transition into the band brought a second generation of the Hall family into Casting Crowns, and he remains the group’s bassist as of 2026.

Chris Huffman

Chris Huffman served as Casting Crowns’ bassist and backing vocalist from 2001 until 2021. He joined after the band’s move to Georgia and became part of the lineup that recorded the group’s major-label debut. Huffman remained a foundational member of the rhythm section for two decades before stepping away from touring so he could spend more time at home after getting married.

Brian Scoggin

Brian Scoggin served as Casting Crowns’ drummer from 2009 until 2021. He replaced Andy Williams and played on multiple albums during one of the band’s most commercially successful periods. Scoggin stepped away from Casting Crowns in April 2021 to devote more time to local ministry, discipleship, teaching, and counseling.

Andy Williams

Andy Williams played drums for Casting Crowns from 2001 until 2009. He was part of the lineup that recorded the band’s self-titled 2003 major-label debut and Lifesong, helping establish the rhythmic foundation of the group’s early sound. Williams left the band in 2009 and was replaced by Brian Scoggin. Sadly, Andy Williams died on July 9, 2021, after suffering severe injuries in a motorcycle accident.

Hector Cervantes

Hector Cervantes was Casting Crowns’ original lead guitarist and backing vocalist and was part of the band from its early Daytona Beach years. His guitar work appeared on the band’s breakthrough recordings, including Casting Crowns, Lifesong, The Altar and the Door, Until the Whole World Hears, and Come to the Well. Cervantes left during the early 2010s as Josh Mix became the band’s lead guitarist, but his work remains an important part of Casting Crowns’ original sound.
