Founded by youth pastor Mark Hall at First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, the band later relocated to Stockbridge, Georgia, and expanded its membership from performing only in student worship settings to recording studio albums and touring extensively. The band is known for their spiritual lyrics and modern worship music, appealing to both religious audiences and broader listeners. Casting Crowns has released multiple albums with significant chart success, receiving both Grammy and Dove Award nominations and wins. Their notable albums include their self-titled debut, Casting Crowns (2003), which became a fast-selling debut for a Christian band, and Lifesong (2005), which further established their popularity.
Mark Hall
Mark Hall is the lead vocalist and founder of Casting Crowns. Since the band’s formation in 1999, Hall has been the primary songwriter and a constant presence in the band. His role as a youth pastor has heavily influenced the themes and lyrics of the band’s music, focusing on messages of faith and Christian teachings. Hall has been involved in all of the band’s albums, from their debut Casting Crowns to their latest releases. Beyond his work with the band, Hall has also authored several books on Christianity and youth ministry, further extending his influence in Christian circles.
Juan DeVevo
Juan DeVevo plays guitar and provides backing vocals for Casting Crowns. He has been with the band since its early days in Daytona Beach, contributing to both their studio recordings and live performances. DeVevo’s guitar work is integral to the band’s sound, characterized by its rhythmic acoustic strums and occasional lead solos. His work is featured prominently across all of Casting Crowns’ albums, providing a solid musical foundation that complements the band’s vocal melodies.
Josh Mix
Josh Mix joined Casting Crowns in 2013 as the lead guitarist and backup vocalist. He came on board following the departure of Hector Cervantes and quickly became a key part of the band’s music production. Mix’s guitar skills brought a fresh dynamic to the band’s albums, starting from Thrive (2014) onwards. His ability to blend rock elements with melodic harmonies has helped evolve the band’s sound.
Melodee DeVevo
Melodee DeVevo plays violin and provides vocals for Casting Crowns. She has been with the band since the beginning, adding a unique element with her violin playing, which is not commonly found in Christian rock bands. Her musicianship adds depth and a classical touch to the band’s music, enhancing their spiritual and worshipful sound. DeVevo has participated in every album and is also involved in the band’s lyrical development.
Megan Garrett
Megan Garrett plays keyboards, accordion, and provides vocals for Casting Crowns. Since joining the band early in its development, Garrett has contributed to the atmospheric and orchestral layers of their music. Jack Williams
Jack Williams joined Casting Crowns as the drummer in 2019. His addition came at a pivotal time when former drummer Brian Scoggin departed. His drumming is featured in the band’s recent tours and will be part of their future studio projects.
John Michael Hall
John Michael Hall, the son of Mark Hall, officially joined the band in 2021 as the bassist. His involvement started during live performances, and he quickly became a full-time member, participating in the band’s recordings and tours. His role signifies a generational continuation in the band’s lineup, bringing youthful energy and new perspectives to their music.

Chris Huffman
Chris Huffman was the bassist for Casting Crowns until his departure in 2021. During his tenure, Huffman was part of the foundational rhythm section and recorded on all albums up to that point, contributing to the band’s consistent sound and musical success.
Brian Scoggin
Brian Scoggin served as the drummer for Casting Crowns from 2009 until 2019. He played on multiple albums, including Until the Whole World Hears (2009) and The Very Next Thing (2016), his drumming providing the driving force behind many of the band’s most dynamic tracks.
Andy Williams
Andy Williams played drums for Casting Crowns before Brian Scoggin. He was part of the band during its early formation and contributed to their initial growth and development, playing on their first few albums.
Hector Cervantes
Hector Cervantes was the band’s original lead guitarist and played a crucial role in developing their early sound. His guitar work featured on albums such as Casting Crowns and Lifesong. Cervantes left the band in 2013 to pursue other interests but remains an integral part of their history.
