The Prodigy is an English electronic music group formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex, by Liam Howlett. Known for their pioneering style that blends elements of rave, techno, industrial, and breakbeat hardcore, The Prodigy became one of the most prominent bands of the electronic music scene in the 1990s and 2000s. The group has released seven studio albums, including The Fat of the Land, Music for the Jilted Generation, Invaders Must Die, and No Tourists. Their music has achieved significant chart success across the globe and has garnered numerous awards, making them a seminal force in the genre. Following Keith Flint’s death in 2019, The Prodigy continued with Liam Howlett and Maxim, supported in the current live lineup by guitarist and bassist Rob Holliday and drummer Leo Crabtree.

Liam Howlett

Liam Howlett is the founder and primary composer for The Prodigy. He has been with the band since its inception in 1990 and is responsible for the majority of the music’s production and songwriting. Howlett’s background as a DJ greatly influenced the band’s sound, incorporating a mix of techno, breakbeat, and rave elements. He has played on all of The Prodigy’s albums, shaping their sound and direction. Outside of The Prodigy, Howlett has engaged in various remix projects and collaborations with other artists, but his main focus has remained with the band.

Keith Flint

Keith Flint started as a dancer for The Prodigy before transitioning into a vocalist. His first lead vocal for the group was on “Firestarter,” released in 1996, followed by another defining vocal performance on “Breathe.” Flint’s dynamic stage presence and unique vocal style became a hallmark of The Prodigy’s identity, particularly during the era of The Fat of the Land. He remained an integral part of the band until his untimely death in 2019. Flint also engaged in side projects, including his motorcycle racing team and the music project Flint.

Maxim

Maxim, whose real name is Keith Palmer, joined The Prodigy around the time of the group’s earliest live performances and became its MC and additional vocalist. His distinctive voice and energetic live performances have contributed significantly to the band’s style, particularly live. Maxim has appeared throughout The Prodigy’s major recording career and, together with Liam Howlett, remains at the center of the band’s live activity in 2026. He has also pursued a solo career, releasing music that explores various electronic styles.

Leeroy Thornhill

Leeroy Thornhill was a member of The Prodigy from its formation in 1990 until 2000. He served primarily as a dancer and live performer, known for his energetic dance routines and stage presence. Although not centrally involved in Liam Howlett’s studio production, Thornhill’s role in the band’s live shows was significant during their early years and commercial rise. After leaving The Prodigy, he pursued a career as a DJ and electronic music producer, including work under the name Flightcrank.

Sharky

Sharky was one of the original members of The Prodigy, performing as a dancer during the group’s earliest live period. She was part of the group briefly in 1990 before they gained major public attention and left before the release of their first album, Experience, in 1992.

Rob Holliday

Rob Holliday has served as a live guitarist and bassist for The Prodigy across several periods, beginning in 2005. He performed with the band during 2005 and 2006, returned from 2008 through 2017, and rejoined the live lineup in 2022. His contributions during live performances add a strong rock element to the band, reinforcing their crossover appeal between electronic music and rock audiences. Holliday remains part of The Prodigy’s live lineup in 2026.

Leo Crabtree

Leo Crabtree joined The Prodigy’s live lineup in 2008 as drummer and percussionist. His live drumming became an important component of the band’s stage sound during the Invaders Must Die, The Day Is My Enemy, and No Tourists eras. Crabtree continues to perform with The Prodigy and remains part of the group’s 2026 live lineup.

Jim Davies

Jim Davies served as a live guitarist for The Prodigy during 1995 and 1996 and returned to the touring lineup from 2002 to 2004. He also contributed guitar to studio recordings associated with The Fat of the Land, including guitar parts connected with “Firestarter,” “Breathe,” and “Fuel My Fire.” Davies later worked with Keith Flint’s side project Flint and continued pursuing his own music and production work.

Gizz Butt

Gizz Butt joined The Prodigy’s live lineup in 1996, replacing Jim Davies as the group’s touring guitarist during the height of the The Fat of the Land era. Butt remained with the live band until 1999 and became a prominent part of The Prodigy’s expanded rock-oriented stage presentation. Outside of The Prodigy, he has worked with bands including English Dogs, Janus Stark, and The More I See.

Kieron Pepper

Kieron Pepper joined The Prodigy’s live lineup in 1997 as drummer and percussionist and remained a major touring member through 2007. His live drumming helped give The Prodigy’s concerts a more physical rock-band dimension during the years following The Fat of the Land and through the Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned era. Pepper also worked with Keith Flint in the side project Flint.

Olly Burden

Olly Burden became The Prodigy’s live guitarist in 2017 after Rob Holliday’s departure from the touring lineup. He performed with the group through 2019 and also made substantial studio contributions, including work on Invaders Must Die, The Day Is My Enemy, and No Tourists. Burden co-produced much of No Tourists and contributed guitar and songwriting to the band’s later material.
