The Prodigy is an English electronic music group formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex, by Liam Howlett. Known for their pioneering style that blends elements of rave, techno, industrial, and breakbeat hardcore, The Prodigy became one of the most prominent bands of the electronic music scene in the 1990s and 2000s. The group has released several influential albums, including The Fat of the Land, Music for the Jilted Generation, and Invaders Must Die. Their music has achieved significant chart success across the globe and has garnered numerous awards, making them a seminal force in the genre. The band has undergone several lineup changes throughout its history, with members contributing to various aspects of its distinctive sound.

Liam Howlett

Liam Howlett is the founder and primary composer for The Prodigy. He has been with the band since its inception in 1990 and is responsible for the majority of the music’s production and songwriting. Howlett’s background as a DJ greatly influenced the band’s sound, incorporating a mix of techno, breakbeat, and rave elements. He has played on all of The Prodigy’s albums, shaping their sound and direction. Outside of The Prodigy, Howlett has engaged in various remix projects and collaborations with other artists, but his main focus has remained with the band.

Keith Flint

Keith Flint started as a dancer for The Prodigy before transitioning to a vocalist role during the release of their second album, Music for the Jilted Generation. Flint’s dynamic stage presence and unique vocal style became a hallmark of The Prodigy’s identity, particularly evident on tracks like “Firestarter” and “Breathe” from The Fat of the Land. He remained an integral part of the band until his untimely death in 2019. Flint also engaged in side projects, including his motorcycle racing team and a solo music project, Flint.

Maxim

Maxim, whose real name is Keith Palmer, has been the MC and an additional vocalist for The Prodigy since 1990. His distinctive voice and energetic live performances have contributed significantly to the band’s style, particularly live. Maxim has appeared on all the major albums since joining the band and has also pursued a solo career, releasing albums that explore various electronic music styles.

Leeroy Thornhill

Leeroy Thornhill was a member of The Prodigy from its formation in 1990 until 2000. He served as a dancer and live performer, known for his energetic dance routines and stage presence. Although not involved in music production, Thornhill’s role in the band’s live shows was significant during their early years. After leaving The Prodigy, he pursued a career as a DJ and electronic music producer.

Sharky

Sharky was one of the original members of The Prodigy, performing as a dancer. She was part of the group briefly during its early days before they gained major public attention and left before the release of their first album, Experience in 1992.

Rob Holliday

Rob Holliday served as a live guitarist for The Prodigy during various tours. His contributions, primarily during live performances, added a rock element to the band, enhancing their crossover appeal between electronic music and rock audiences. Holliday was not a studio member but was pivotal in live settings, particularly noted during the tours supporting Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned and Invaders Must Die.
