Slipknot turned anonymity into one of metal’s most recognizable forms of expression. Nine masks, layered percussion, turntables, grinding guitars, and Corey Taylor’s shift from wounded melody to full-throated fury created music that could feel industrial, tribal, and intensely personal at the same time. This A-to-Z guide traces that catalog through studio albums, bonus tracks, hidden pieces, demos, alternate mixes, EP recordings, and standalone releases.

The band’s journey toward national attention began with the independently released Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat., which laid part of the groundwork for the sonic assault that followed. After signing with Roadrunner Records, Slipknot broke into the mainstream metal scene with its self-titled album in 1999. “Wait and Bleed,” “Spit It Out,” “Surfacing,” and “(sic)” introduced a group whose combination of precision and chaos quickly attracted a fiercely loyal audience known as the Maggots.
The momentum continued with Iowa in 2001. Darker, heavier, and more claustrophobic than its predecessor, the album reached number three on the Billboard 200 and produced songs including “Left Behind,” “My Plague,” “The Heretic Anthem,” and “People = Shit.” Slipknot continued refining and expanding its sound through Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), All Hope Is Gone, .5: The Gray Chapter, We Are Not Your Kind, and The End, So Far.
Across those records, the band proved capable of moving beyond uninterrupted aggression. “Vermilion Pt. 2,” “Snuff,” “Circle,” “Dead Memories,” and “Adderall” revealed quieter, more melodic, and increasingly experimental dimensions, while “Duality,” “Before I Forget,” “Psychosocial,” “The Devil in I,” and “Unsainted” became fixtures of modern metal.
Slipknot earned multiple Grammy nominations and won Best Metal Performance for “Before I Forget.” The band’s videos and concerts extended the music’s impact through evolving masks, numbered identities, industrial staging, and performances designed to feel less like conventional rock shows than controlled eruptions.
The group’s history has also been marked by loss and major lineup changes, yet Slipknot has continued performing and recording without abandoning the collective identity established during its earliest years. “Bone Church” and the Adderall EP expanded the catalog after The End, So Far, while the anniversary edition of Slipknot brought early demos and alternate mixes into wider official circulation.
Slipknot’s enduring appeal comes from the emotional force beneath the spectacle. Its songs confront pain, identity, isolation, grief, anger, and survival with an intensity that has allowed listeners to recognize their own experiences inside even the band’s most abrasive music.
