Echosmith began as a family project in Chino, California, when siblings Sydney, Noah, Graham, and Jamie Sierota started writing and performing music together in 2006. The four were raised on a steady diet of Coldplay, U2, the Killers, Joy Division, the Smiths, and Fleetwood Mac, influences that shaped their early songwriting and the bright indie-pop identity they would later refine. The family performed under the name Ready Set Go! until signing with Warner Bros. Records in 2012, at which point they took the name Echosmith to reflect their shared artistic role as creators and builders of sound. Their father, Jeffery David, served as a key producer and co-writer during this formative period.

Their career accelerated dramatically with the 2013 release of the single “Cool Kids,” which grew from a quiet early promotion into a national hit. The song resonated with listeners who connected with its themes of insecurity and longing for acceptance. It eventually peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned quadruple-platinum certification in the United States. The success of “Cool Kids” opened the door to national television appearances, major festival dates, and broad radio exposure, positioning Echosmith as a significant new voice in contemporary pop.

On October 8, 2013, the group released its debut studio album, Talking Dreams. That record featured “Cool Kids” along with “Bright,” a song that became another defining moment for the band thanks to its uplifting message and strong presence on adult contemporary radio. Echosmith also released extended plays such as Summer Sampler in 2013 and Acoustic Dreams in 2014, the latter featuring acoustic versions and the new track “Terminal,” which further showcased their harmonic style. Their early touring years included headlining dates, support slots, and appearances on the Vans Warped Tour, all of which helped solidify their connection with young fans.

In 2016, the band underwent a major shift when Jamie Sierota stepped away from regular touring to focus on family obligations after the birth of his child. Echosmith continued as a trio, and Sydney expanded her artistic presence by collaborating with the Goo Goo Dolls on “Flood” for the album Boxes. During this period the band issued singles such as “Goodbye,” “Future Me,” and “Dear World” as they worked toward developing their next studio project. In 2017 they released the EP Inside a Dream, which previewed a more atmospheric sound and a more mature lyrical direction.

Their second studio album, Lonely Generation, arrived on January 10, 2020. The record examined themes of technology, isolation, connection, and the unique pressures facing young adults. It featured the singles “Lonely Generation” and “Shut Up and Kiss Me,” and marked the band’s first independent release. Touring plans around the album were impacted by the global shutdown of 2020, but the music strengthened the group’s reputation as artists capable of blending polished pop production with emotional clarity and relatable storytelling.

On July 28, 2023, Echosmith released their third studio album, Echosmith. Preceded by singles such as “Hang Around,” “Gelato,” “Hindsight,” and “Sour,” the self-titled record reaffirmed the band’s identity as a trio and offered a mixture of bright pop, reflective songwriting, and strong melodic structures. Their increasing visibility included contributions to broader media projects, most notably the 2022 release of “With You,” which served as the English opening theme for the twenty-fifth season of Pokémon the Series.

Outside of traditional recording and touring, the band has participated in youth-oriented initiatives that connect directly with their audience. In 2015 they partnered with State Farm for the Celebrate My Drive program, a nationwide effort focused on safe driving for teenagers. The campaign featured school events, competitions, and performances designed to encourage safety awareness and reward positive community engagement. Their participation aligned naturally with the age demographic that embraced their music and offered a constructive use of their platform.
