L.S. Dunes formed in 2020 from musicians whose work had already shaped post-hardcore, emo, punk, and alternative rock. The lineup brought together vocalist Anthony Green, guitarists Frank Iero and Travis Stever, bassist Tim Payne, and drummer Tucker Rule.

The project began during rehearsals connected to Thursday’s 2020 holiday livestream. Rule, Payne, Iero, and Stever started developing music remotely before Green joined as vocalist. Because the members were working in different places during the pandemic, the debut material took shape through exchanged recordings before the full band performed together.

L.S. Dunes announced its arrival in 2022 with “Permanent Rebellion.” The band made its live debut at Riot Fest in Chicago that September and followed the first single with “2022” and “Bombsquad.” Those songs introduced a sound that drew from the members’ earlier bands without functioning as an extension of any one of them.

Past Lives was released through Fantasy Records in November 2022. Produced by Will Yip, the eleven-song album moved from the theatrical opening of “2022” through “Antibodies,” “Grey Veins,” “Like Forever,” “Grifter,” and the closing “Sleep Cult.” Its writing addressed impermanence, dependency, fear, and the urge to create during a period when live music had stopped.

The band returned in 2023 with “Benadryl Subreddit” and “Old Wounds,” both recorded at Rancho De La Luna with producer Alex Newport. “Old Wounds (Demo)” followed before the release of Lost Songs: Lines and Shapes, an eleven-track collection containing early versions of every song from Past Lives.

L.S. Dunes released the standalone song “How Dare You” in February 2024. Later that year, “Fatal Deluxe,” “Machines,” and “Paper Tigers” opened the next album cycle and revealed a broader approach to melody, texture, and arrangement.

Violet arrived in January 2025. The ten-song album reunited the band with Will Yip and included “Like Magick,” “I Can See It Now…,” “You Deserve to Be Haunted,” “Holograms,” “Things I Thought Would Last Forever,” and “Forgiveness.”

The band continued performing while its members balanced schedules with My Chemical Romance, Coheed and Cambria, Thursday, Saosin, and their other projects. That flexibility has remained central to L.S. Dunes, whose identity depends on the chemistry of the same five musicians rather than a conventional full-time touring structure.

Across two studio albums, a complete demo collection, and several standalone singles, L.S. Dunes has built a focused catalog based on urgent performances, collaborative songwriting, and the contrast between abrasive guitars and Anthony Green’s highly expressive voice.
