Sheryl Crow & Keith Richards perform the Stones “Happy.”

Sheryl Crow burst on the scene in 1995 with her debut Grammy Award winning album titled Tuesday Night Music Club. Four years later, she was joined onstage by one of the most iconic figures in rock and roll history. Appearing together in Central Park, New York City during the summer of 1999, Keith Richards joined Sheryl Crow and her fabulous band onstage to perform the Rolling Stones song, “Happy.”

Keith took the stage by greeting the New York crowd with his famous saying, “Glad to be here….glad to be anywhere.” Keith took the vocals on the first verse while Sheryl sang lead on the second verse. Throughout the song, both singers demonstrated their talents not only as lead singers, but their experiences as backup singers as they both harmonized beautifully against each other’s vocals. A great moment in Classic Rock History and the first video to lead off our new category “JAMS.”

The song “Happy,” was originally released on the Rolling Stones album Exile on Main St. That legendary album was released in 1972. It is regarded by many as the greatest Rolling Stones album ever released. The song “Happy,” was the second single released from that album as it followed up the album’s lead single “Tumbling Dice.”  The song “Happy,” would break into the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number twenty two in 1972. The song’s lead vocal was performed by Keith Richards. It was the highest charting single released by the Rolling Stones in which Keith Richards was the lead vocalist.
