Our Alanis Morissette albums ranked list takes a look at a rock and roll artist that completely blew away the music world in 1995 with her debut album Jagged Little Pill. Fueled by a hit single called “You Ought To Know,” that turned heads instantly, Alanis Morissette became an overnight sensation in the music business. However, Jagged Little Pill was not her debut album. The Canadian rocker had been around for a while and actually had released two MCA albums that were nothing like her debut. Those albums instantly became collectors items. Alanis Morissette tried to downplay those two CDs that really was not too flattering to the image that she had given birth to on Jagged Little Pill.

The Jagged Little Pill album just continued to release hit single after hit single. It actually seem to become overwhelming for the the singer as she was looked at it as pretty much a god. A role that she even spoofed on herself when she played God in the 1990 Kevin Smith film Dogma. It took a while for Alanis Morissette to release a follow-up album to Jagged Little Pill but in 1998 she released the album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. It was a great record but it came nowhere close to the sales of Jagged Little Pill.

Alanis Morissette continued releasing music into 2000s with Under Rug Swept in 2002. That was followed up with So Called Chaos in 2004. Alanis Morissette released the album Flavors Of Entanglement in 2008. In 2012, Alanis Morissette released the album Havoc And Bright Lights. The longest period in between albums occurred after her 2012 release when eight years would pass by before she released the album Such Pretty Forks In The Road. In between her studio albums she released three live albums. In 1999 she released the album MTV Unplugged. In 2002, she released the album Live at Montreux 2012. Her most recent live album was released in 2020 entitled live at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire 2020. Alanis Morissette’s record company released many singles that included rare cuts or remixes which all the gbecame very collectible to her fans.

Alanis Morissette became a worldwide star on a huge level in 1995. Overtime, her stardom faded or at least we should say the mania faded, but her cult following has continued to grow. Are Alanis Morissette albums ranked list is just a fun exercising in picking our favorite Alanis Morissette  albums in order of preference .

# 9 – Alanis

We included her first two albums on this list because he wanted to percent a complete discography. The first album entitled Alannis was released in 1991. It sounds nothing like the Alanis Morissette that we all came to know with Jagged Little Pill. This sounds more like Tiffany.

# 8 – Now Is the Time

The second Alanis Morissette album entitled Now Is The Time was released in 1992. It’s interesting to listen to this because Alanis Morissette actually wrote all the songs on this record. Yet, it’s before she met Glen Ballard who completely changed her way of thinking as a songwriter and as an artist. And we must remember that Alanis Morissette was just a kid when she released her first two albums under heavy pressure from the record companies that were releasing them.

# 7 – Havoc and Bright Lights

Continuing with our Alanis Morissette albums list return to the album Havoc and Bright Lights. The album was released in 2012. This was Alanis Morissette’s eighth studio album. This was the mellow Alanis Morissette album. The album hit number one on the Canada album charts it also hit number one in Switzerland and Austria. Alanis Morissette remains a worldwide star. It also did well in United States where hit number 5 on the Billboard top 200 albums charts.

# 6 – Such Pretty Forks in the Road

The Alanis Morissette album Such Pretty Forks In The Road stands as her most recent album as it was released just last summer on July 31st 2020. It was nice to have a new Alanis Morissette album in the middle of the pandemic when we pretty much couldn’t  do anything else but just listen to music and watch Netflix. RCA Records released five singles from the album starting off with the song “Reasons I Drink,” which was so appropriate for the time. The album hit number one on the US billboard Rock album charts. Thank you Alanis, we knew you were God.

# 5 – Flavors of Entanglement

The Flavors Of Entanglement album was released in 2008. Once again, Alanis Morissette hit number one in Switzerland where they just love her. In Canada it hit number three. However ,it did win the Juno award for Pop Album Of The Year. The album was fueled by the great single “Underneath,” which was released on April 15th 2008. The Flavors Of Entanglement album was sort of a return to her Jagged Little Pill style of anger and heartbreak which many fans were happy about.

# 4 – Under Rug Swept

We just love the title of this album Under Rug Swept. It just said so much. Under Rug Swept was a very successful commercial album for Alanis Morissette the album hit number one in Canada, Australia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the United States. That’s big-time successful big time popular album for you. The arm spawn to big hit singles entitled hands clean and precious illusions. The whole gamut of human emotions were spread out throughout the songs on this brilliant album. We all loved this one, or at least most of us did.

# 3 – Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie

No matter what Alanis Morissette did on her second album ,she knew it would always be compared to her masterpiece Jagged Little Pill. In one of the most highly-anticipated follow-up albums, Alanis Morissette released the album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie on November 3rd 1998. While not drifting too far from the sound and style of Jagged Little Pill the album did show artistic growth and the yearning to develop as an artist without losing her core audience of fans. She proved quite successful on all fronts on this album. Once again five singles were released by Maverick records starting with the very cool song “Thank U.” The song was inspired by her trip to India “Thank U,” would become her biggest hit not released on Jagged Little Pill.

# 2 – So-Called Chaos

So-called chaos is one of our favorite amount has more side albums. It’s just such a fun record. She’s not as angry on this one. She’s actually having fun and we are kind of happy for her and ourselves at the same time. We knew it right away from the first single entitled “Everything.” the album did well in the charting number one on the European top 100 albums list oh, it also hit number one in Germany and Austria  well as the Netherlands. In the United States peaked at number five on the US Billboard top 200. In the UK, it peaked at number eight.

# 1 – Jagged Little Pill

We close out our Alanis Morissette albums list with the album of the 90s. If we had to pick three albums that defined the decade it would be Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill, Nirvana’s Nevermind and Sheryl Crow’s Tuesday Night Music Club. Those three albums and artists had such a huge impact on the music of the 1990s. Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill is one of the biggest selling albums of all time. The album has sold over 33 million copies on a worldwide basis. Almost half of that was sold in the US where it sold 15 million copies. The album hit number one in the United States the United Kingdom, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and many other countries around the world. Words almost can’t describe how big this album was when it first came out. It all started with the amazing single “You Oughta Know.” One of the angriest songs ever recorded that turned so many people on.
